Georgi McNease

Georgi McNease portraitTitle: Peer Education Coordinator

How I Support Student Health and Wellness: In my role, I supervise and professionally develop peer educators who focus on alcohol and other drugs, sexual health and mental health. Peer educators provide numerous workshops and activities on campus, including programs such as the Wellness Leadership Institute (WLI), Mindfulness and Meditation, Health Hubs, Sober Cuse and Together We Thrive, and by providing a student voice on the Chancellor’s Taskforce and Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Coalition. As the peer education coordinator, my main goal is to provide peer educators with the training and support they need to provide accurate and relevant health information to other students on campus.

Professional Interests: Before joining Syracuse University, I worked as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher in Houston, Texas. Prior to that, I served in the Peace Corps, where I taught English and health classes to middle and high school students. I have experience in sexual violence prevention work, and I was heavily involved in this work during my time at Sam Houston State University. I am excited to combine my professional interests of public health and student development in my role as peer education coordinator.

Groups/Classes/Liaison Roles: I am a member of the Barnes Center at The Arch’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) Committee.

Educational Background: I have a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with minors in Spanish and psychology from Sam Houston State University.
