Starting a New Club Sport Guidelines
The Syracuse University Club Sport Program functions on student initiative and leadership. Please follow the instructions below.
Phase One: Initiation and Recognition of New Club Sports Teams
Prior to petitioning to form a new club, students should consider and plan to address the following.
- Sufficient student interest/participation in the activity.
- Availability of facilities for practice and/or competition.
- Opportunity for extramural competition for competitive clubs.
- Availability of coaches and/or instructors.
- Acceptable risk level of the activity.
- Ensuring that all club members comply with the Syracuse University Code of Student Conduct and information contained in the Sport Club Handbook.
- Student representative ability to assume the overall responsibility and coordination of the club.
- Availability of a faculty or staff advisor.
Phase Two: Club Sports Administration Team Meeting
- Contact the Barnes Center at The Arch Club Sports Administration Team at 315.443.4386 to schedule an initial meeting to discuss the proposed new club.
- Students interested in forming a new club sports team should provide a brief, written overview of the proposed activity. This overview should include, but not be limited to, a statement of purpose, goals and objectives, facility and equipment requirements, and any other pertinent information.
- Requests for new club sports teams will be evaluated based on potential risk, possible duplication of existing clubs, student interest, financial support and available facilities.
Athletic Training Appointments
By appointment, the Barnes Center at The Arch athletic trainer is available for club sports athletes experiencing sport-related injuries. Please call the Barnes Center at The Arch Club Sports Administration Team at 315.443.4386 to schedule an appointment.

Club Sports: Using the Wellness Portal IMLeagues Platform
Creating an IMLeagues Account
- Navigate to the Wellness Portal IMLeagues platform.
- In the top right corner select “Create an Account” and follow prompts. Please note, unless a different email address is proactively requested, a Syracuse University email address (@syr.edu) will be required.
- When ready to complete, select “Create Account.”
Non-Syracuse University Email Addresses
To create a Wellness Portal IMLeagues account with a non-Syracuse University email address (@syr.edu), please email Jasmine Holmes, associate director of sport programs, or call 315.443.3060.
Wellness Portal IMLeagues: Forms, Handbooks, Rulebooks and Manuals
- Navigate to the Wellness Portal IMLeagues platform.
- In the top right corner, select “LOGIN.” Then, using a collegiate email address (e.g. @syr.edu, @esf.edu) and the chosen password, complete the login process.
- Next, select “Syracuse University” from the top navigation bar.
- Select "Club Sports."
- Near the top left, select "Handbooks & Manuals."
Wellness Portal IMLeagues Registration: Joining a Team
- Navigate to the Wellness Portal IMLeagues platform.
- In the top right corner, select “LOGIN.” Then, using a collegiate email address (e.g. @syr.edu, @esf.edu) and the chosen password, complete the login process.
- Next, select “Syracuse University” from the top navigation bar.
- Select "Club Sports."
- Scroll down to explore the list of available Club Sports opportunities.
- When you find the desired Club Sports opportunity, select "View" to learn more about the team. To begin submitting a request to join, select "Join."
- Next, complete all prompted requirements. When ready to complete, select “Send Request.”
- To review requests and messages, select your name in the top right corner.
Wellness Portal IMLeagues Registration: Contacting a Team
- Navigate to the Wellness Portal IMLeagues platform.
- In the top right corner, select “LOGIN.” Then, using a collegiate email address (e.g. @syr.edu, @esf.edu) and the chosen password, complete the login process.
- Next, select “Syracuse University” from the top navigation bar.
- Select "Club Sports."
- Scroll down to explore the list of available Club Sports opportunities.
- When you find the desired Club Sports opportunity, select "View."
- Near the top, select "Roster."
- Next to the team member's name, locate the person identified as "(Captain)" and select "Send Message."
- To review requests and messages, select your name in the top right corner.
