Caleb Kessler, LMHC

Caleb Kessler portraitTherapeutic Style: My style incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and mindfulness skills work into a humanistic and interpersonal framework. I strive to provide a safe space to help students explore and embrace their unique strengths and values, develop the tools to work through challenges and feel more affirmed and able to be their authentic selves. I hope to help students better understand context for their thoughts and feelings, including navigating the biological, psychological, social and environmental factors impacting them.

Professional Interests: My areas of professional interest include identity development, providing affirming care for LGBTQIA+ individuals and other marginalized populations, neurodivergence, anxiety and mood. Prior to coming to Syracuse University, I worked in community mental health addressing a wide variety of presenting concerns with individuals of all ages.

Educational Background: I received a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience and psychology from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s in clinical mental health counseling from SUNY Oswego. I worked for several years in cognitive neuroscience research before pursuing counseling, which informs my approach to promoting students’ overall wellbeing.
