Title: Registered Nurse

How I Support Student Health and Wellness: One of the things I love most about being a registered nurse at the Barnes Center at The Arch is the many different ways I get to interact with students. In a typical week, I rotate between conducting sexually transmitted infection (STI) screenings and one-on-one nurse visits, addressing students’ health concerns over the phone and working alongside our providers to care for students in the office. My goal every day is to help each student feel seen as a whole person, listened to without judgment and genuinely cared about.

Professional Interests: I am especially passionate about supporting students in our LGBTQIA+ community. I am excited to be part of our Gender-Affirming Care Health and Wellness Committee, a diverse team of Health, Counseling, Health Promotion and Recreation staff dedicated to building and strengthening our services for gender-diverse students.

Educational Background: I have bachelor’s degrees in English and communications from Le Moyne College (I started out in a very different field!), an associate degree in nursing from St. Joseph’s College of Nursing, and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Keuka College. Before coming to the Barnes Center, I worked on a medical-surgical unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse.

Hobbies and Interests Outside of Work: When not in scrubs, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Anthony, our two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and our big orange cat. I love to host gatherings for friends and family, see live music and comedy shows, travel to new places and sustain the deer population of the Syracuse area with my vegetable garden.
