Being a Peer Leader
Peer Leaders are undergraduate students that provide health and wellness education to their peers through role modeling, interactive programming and outreach initiatives. Peer Leaders are trained on educating and empowering students to make informed decisions regarding alcohol and other substances, sexual health and pleasure, bystander intervention and mental well-being.
What does a Peer Educator do?
Seeking to make a difference on campus through programming and education, Peer Education is a job that builds accountability and responsibility in students who are able to channel their passion for well-being. What is the time commitment?
During the academic year, often the minimum time commitment to be involved with the group is 7-10 hours per week. This may include a weekly meeting, office hour(s) and programming commitments. Hours typically fall during the weekday, but some weekend and evening hours are available.
What are the qualifications needed to become a Peer Educator?
Peer Educators are highly reliable students that are passionate about promoting well-being, have a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility, and hold strong interpersonal/communication skills. Additionally, they are accountable and are able to work well independently and within team settings.
