Masking and COVID Alert Framework
Effective Friday, Aug. 13, 2021, Syracuse University implemented a four-tiered COVID alert system and associated masking framework, designed as a tool to communicate and dynamically adjust campus masking requirements over time, based on an ongoing assessment of rates of new infection, testing data and contact tracing information unique to our campus and local community. Current Masking Requirements
Communicated digitally in addition to physical signage per health and wellness location, requirements including those for masking, are subject to change.
- Counseling: Required at all times.
- Health Care: Required at all times.
- Psychiatry: Required at all times.
- Recreation Facilities: Masks recommended and available at all facilities for patrons.

COVID-19 (Testing, Vaccinations, Boosters)
Provide Proof of COVID-19 Booster
The University requires all eligible students, faculty and staff who routinely access any Syracuse University campus location or facility to receive a COVID booster shot.

Who is Eligible for the Booster Vaccine
- Individuals who received their second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at least five months ago.
- Individuals who received the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least two months ago.
- Individuals who previously received World Health Organization-approved vaccinations other than Moderna, Pfizer or Janssen/Johnson & Johnson should receive a Pfizer booster dose if they received their initial vaccine series at least five months ago, in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance.
As a reminder, the only exemption from this requirement is an approved medical or religious waiver on file with the Barnes Center. If you already have a medical or religious waiver on file with the Barnes Center for the COVID-19 vaccination, you do not need to take any further action. If you need to submit a medical or religious waiver, please complete and upload the "Medical-Religious Waiver Form" in the Patient Portal.
Provide Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination
Syracuse University requires all students, faculty, and staff routinely accessing campus to be vaccinated against COVID-19. This includes receiving a booster shot. Learn more on the Immunizations webpage.

Difficulty Accessing COVID Testing
Students who cannot access COVID-19 testing or at-home testing kits in their local community to meet the University's pre-arrival testing requirement can contact Student Experience to review options.
Experiencing COVID-19 Symptoms
- If you have any of the below symptoms, please call 315.443.8000 to schedule an appointment at the Barnes Center at The Arch.
- Drop-in appointments are not available.
- Stay in your room if you are experiencing symptoms. Do not attend in-person class, participate in extracurricular activities, or travel onto campus or into the community.

- Temperature Above 100.4 ˚F, 38 ˚C
- Chills
- Congested/Runny Nose (Unrelated to seasonal allergies.)
- Difficulty Breathing, Shortness of Breath
- Diarrhea
- Nausea, Vomiting
- New Loss of Taste or Smell
- Sore Throat
- Headaches, Body/Muscle Aches (Unrelated to strenuous activity, exercise or chronic medical/physical conditions.)
Contact with Someone COVID-19 Positive
Students who have been in contact with someone who is COVID-19 positive should immediately call the Syracuse University COVID-19 Project Management Office at 315.443.6180.
Testing Positive for COVID-19
The Barnes Center and campus partners are here to help.
- Don’t leave your residence until further instructions are provided.
- If students receive positive test results at the Barnes Center at The Arch, they will be transported to an isolation location by Medical Transport and provided additional instructions and support.
- If tested elsewhere, immediately call the Syracuse University COVID-19 Project Management Office at 315.443.6180 for instructions.
- Immediately and honestly participate in contact tracing.
- Information regarding positive test results will be shared with the Onondaga County Health Department (OCHD) and campus contact tracers.

- Stay in your room if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms. Do not attend in-person class, participate in extracurricular activities, or travel onto campus or into the community.
- Call 315.443.8000 to schedule an appointment with the Barnes Center if you have COVID-19 symptoms. Ask about COVID-19 testing.
- Drop-in appointments are not available. An appointment is needed to be tested.
- Please enter the COVID-19 testing site through the Flanagan main doors facing Sims Drive. Please do not access from or enter the Barnes Center at The Arch.
- Masks are required at all times waiting for and during Flanagan COVID-19 testing appointments.

Flu Shot Information
All students accessing campus are required to get a flu vaccine prior to the start of the Spring 2022 semester. The only exceptions to this requirement are for those with religious or medical exemptions.
Fall 2021: Campus Flu Shot Clinics
To provide additional on-campus opportunities for students to receive their required flu shot, the Barnes Center at The Arch is offering additional flu clinics on Thursday, Nov. 11, Friday, Nov. 12 and Tuesday, Nov. 16.
Schedule a Flu Shot Clinic Appointment
To schedule an appointment:
- Log into the Patient Portal with your SU email and password. (You will be prompted to complete Microsoft’s Multi-factor Authentication in advance of accessing the Patient Portal.)
- Select “Appts” on the main menu.
- In the drop-down section:
- Under “Clinic,” select “Health Clinic.”
- Under “Reason,” select “Flu Shot Clinic Appointment.”
- Under “Provider,” select “Barnes Center 309 FluShots.”
- Select “Submit.”
- Select your appointment day and time.
IMPORTANT: Please bring your pharmacy benefit card and health insurance card with you to your appointment. The flu vaccine will be billed to your insurance. Most health insurance companies cover the cost of a flu vaccine in full. Students who have a copay or medical charge applied will be billed accordingly. Please know ability to pay will not impact your access to services. If you are actively enrolled in the Syracuse University Student Health Insurance Plan, you do not need to bring your insurance information.

If You Get Your Flu Shot at Another Provider
You can obtain your flu shot through another medical provider or at a pharmacy. Students who receive a flu shot elsewhere are asked to upload proof of the vaccine in the Patient Portal.

If You have a Medical or Religious Exemption
- Students who need to waive the flu vaccine requirement for a medical or religious reason are asked to submit a Medical or Religious Waiver Form through the Patient Portal.
- If a waiver for another vaccination has already been submitted, no further action is required.

- At this time, drop-in services are not available. A limited number of same day appointments are available by calling 315.443.8000.

Virtual Pharmacy Retail Orders
Frequently purchased retail products are available to order for pick-up using the Wellness Portal and selecting "Virtual Pharmacy." Please note, orders may take two to four hours to complete.
