      Health Promotion Peer Leader

2026-27 Application Due: Friday, Feb. 27

Health Promotion Peer Leaders are student leaders who help other students develop the tools and skills to make informed choices and be well in the way that best meets their individual needs. Peer Leaders facilitate programming to educate other students across a wide range of topics spanning substance use harm reduction, sexual health, healthy relationships, bystander intervention and mental wellness. Peer Leaders facilitate Pet Therapy sessions in the Barnes Center at The Arch, as well as welcome guests in the MindSpa and provide an engaging and welcoming environment.

Being a Peer Leader means serving as a visible, welcoming and approachable presence for student well-being while developing professional and leadership skills that extend far beyond campus.

      Peer Leaders:

      • Serve as peer educators and facilitators.
      • Create inclusive, welcoming and non-judgmental spaces for all students.
      • Build confidence in public speaking, facilitation and group engagement.
      • Develop skills in communication, boundary-setting, time management, teamwork and leadership.
      • Receive ongoing training and support from professional staff.
      • Gain experience relevant to careers in health, education, social services, counseling, student affairs and a wide variety of other fields.
      • Contribute to a campus culture that values care, consent, harm reduction and community well-being.
      • Play a meaningful role in supporting campus well-being.

Peer Leaders are trained student leaders, not experts; no specific content experience is required to apply or be considered. Passion and curiosity matter more than a specific major. Students are not limited by major or field of study; students of all majors and backgrounds are encouraged to apply. This role support both personal growth and professional development.

Applications open Monday, Feb. 2, 2026. Interested students can apply on Handshake.

      Student Health Advisory Committee

The Student Health Advisory Committee is a group of students across campus that provide guidance and feedback on Barnes Center at The Arch health initiatives, programs and services. This group is composed of students that have been nominated by staff, faculty and other students in representation of their school or college. The students are asked to volunteer for four to five hours per month, including a monthly 90-minute meeting and monthly projects between meeting times.

The committee seeks a diverse group of students across the campus community that can provide honest feedback and have the time to fully commit to this volunteer opportunity.
