You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have certain types of health care coverage or who are not using certain types of health care coverage an estimate of their bill for health care items and services before those items or services are provided. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services website, email FederalPPDRQuestions@cms.hhs.gov or call 1.800.985.3059. The Student Health and Wellness Fee is mandatory for full-time undergraduate students, College of Law students registered for 12 or more credits and graduate students registered for nine or more credits. It supports a comprehensive array of health and wellness services and programs provided by the Barnes Center at The Arch, including Counseling, Health Care and Health Promotion. Students who are not required to pay the Student Health and Wellness Fee but would like to pay the fee for the semester to obtain eligibility for these services are asked to complete the Student Health and Wellness Fee Request Form. The Pharmacy participates with most insurance prescription plans, including the Student Health Insurance Plan. If a co-pay and/or fee is required past insurance processing, the Pharmacy accepts the following forms of payment:
- Cash
- Credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, Discover)
- Billing the student’s Bursar’s account
Psychiatry
Effective Aug. 1, 2021: Psychiatry Services Appointment Fee
Counseling visits with our team of therapists continue to be covered in full through the Health and Wellness Fee. This includes visits for individual and group therapy.
Effective Aug. 1, 2021: Psychiatry services, a medical specialty service, will incur an appointment fee that can be applied to your insurance. Based on your insurance provider, billing will be directed as follows:
- For students enrolled in the Syracuse University Student Health Insurance Plan: all visits are covered and there will be no out-of-pocket expenses.
- For students enrolled in Blue Cross & Blue Shield [BC&BS] Blue Card Plans, other Aetna plans, or Pomco Select: visit fees will be charged to your insurance and any remaining out-of-pocket expenses, such as co-pays, can be paid upfront with a credit card or applied to a student Bursar account.
- For students enrolled in all other insurance plans: visit fees can be charged to a credit card or to a student Bursar account and you can then submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement based upon your plan coverage.
- Changes to the billing process will not impact access to psychiatry services and medication management, as they remain available at the Barnes Center.
- After Aug. 1, 2021, appointments with the Barnes Center psychiatry staff (psychiatrist and psychiatric nurse practitioner) will incur a fee of $125 for initial office visit (new patients) and a fee of $75 per follow-up visit.
