Part 1.3a Prohibited Item Policy

Fall 2025: Permitted Microwave Information

To enhance safety and reduce community disruptions caused by burnt food triggering fire alarms, there will be a change to permitted microwaves in residence halls starting in the Fall 2025 semester.

Only microfridges and microwaves with an internal smoke detection system and automatic shutdown will be allowed in residence halls. Students may either rent a microwave through Microfridge (as their products contain the required detection and shutdown system) or bring their own, provided it meets this requirement.

Microwaves without an internal smoke detection system and automatic shutdown are prohibited and will be subject to removal.

Please note: Standard microwaves will still be permitted in campus apartments (South and Milton).
