New Student Programs is excited to have you as one of the newest members of our Orange community! As a transfer student, we recognize your unique needs and are committed to assist you with your transition to Syracuse University. Our goal is to provide support through specific programming opportunities and resources throughout the academic year.
If you are interested in applying to Syracuse University as a transfer student, you should:
- Visit the Transfer Student Admission webpage to learn more about requirements, cost and aid.
- Check out the Transfer Evaluation Self-Service (TESS) tool to determine how your courses from other institutions may apply towards your intended degree program at Syracuse University.
- Email the Office of Admissions for questions or assistance.
National Transfer Student Week (NTSW)
National Transfer Student Week (NTSW) was started by the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students (NISTS) as a celebration of transfer students. Celebrated annually in October, New Student Programs (NSP) hosts events throughout the week to celebrate and support transfer students at Syracuse University.
Please note that Newhouse transfer students will receive additional communication from the Student Success Office regarding their planned appreciation event.

- National Transfer Student Week 2024 Kickoff | 10 a.m.-Noon, Schine Student Center Atrium, 2nd Floor
- Attention all transfer students! Join New Student Programs as we kickoff National Transfer Student Week 2024. Come grab transfer exclusive swag, including stickers, buttons and shirts while you learn more about resources and events throughout the week.
- School of Education Transfer Student Drop-In Hours | 1-4 p.m., 111 Waverly Avenue, Suite 230 (Office of Academic and Student Services)
- As part of National Transfer Student Week, the School of Education Office of Academic and Student Services is hosting drop-in hours for transfer students to meet with advisors about academics or career/post-college planning! Snacks and treats will be provided.
- Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics Virtual Drop-In Hours | 2-3 p.m.
- Falk Admissions and Student Services academic advisors will share information on external transfers, IUT and answer questions on transferring into Falk programs. Faculty representatives from Nutrition Science & Dietetics will provide information about the Nutrition and Nutrition Science transfer process.

- National Transfer Student Week Social | 4-5:30 p.m., 304 Schine Student Center
- Get in the fall and Halloween spirit with a social to close out National Transfer Student Week! Join transfer students for an afternoon with board games, pumpkin painting and food. This event is open to all Syracuse University students, regardless of transfer status. Transfer exclusive swag will be available. RSVP is required.

Transfer Resources
- Center for Disability Resources (CDR) – mitigates disadvantages and environmental barriers that impact learning for Syracuse University students.
- Center for Learning and Student Success (CLASS) – provides and facilitates academic support services in partnership with offices and academic departments across Syracuse university. Services include group and one-on-one tutoring, academic coaching and academic integrity education and training.
- Syracuse Abroad – offers students program options for studying abroad as well as financial information surrounding tuition, fees, and scholarships.
- Syracuse University Libraries – offers information on library hours and space reservations, research databases/catalogs, the borrowing process and polices for laptops and gear and much more!
Once a transfer student matriculates to Syracuse, within one week, you will receive an email from Housing, Meal Plan, and I.D. Card Services encouraging you to apply for housing. Since there are a limited number of beds available, applying early is strongly encouraged. Beds are typically filled by early June for the following fall semester. Transfer students live on South Campus, both in the Skyhalls in double rooms as well as apartments.
Transfer students residing in the Skyhalls are required to take advantage of a University meal plans, as are all students living in residence halls. Meal plan flexibility is based on your class standing. Students living in South Campus apartments are not required to have a meal plan, as each apartment is equipped with a full kitchen.
Transfer students should be sure to familiarize themselves with several important dates related to living in University housing. The online calendar of important dates is continuously being updated and will help to keep new students informed of any upcoming deadlines related to housing and/or meal plans.

- BIPOC Student Success – provides the necessary support and guidance needed to encourage students to become members of a community respectful of differences.
- Center for International Services – the resource for international students on issues related to immigration status, employment, cultural, social and academic concerns.
- Disability Cultural Center (DCC) – coordinates campus-wide social, educational and cultural activities on disability issues for students, faculty, staff and community members.
- Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ+) Resource Center – supports LGTBQ+ and questioning students explore the complexity of their identities and connect them with campus resources while collaborating with and educating University partners on campus climate issues, policies and practices.
- National Veterans Resource Center (NVRC) – the center of veteran life at Syracuse University.
- Community Calendar – this calendar allows you to find Syracuse University events happening on campus and around the globe.
- ‘Cuse Activities – a portal that includes information about Registered Student Organizations (RSO) you can join and campus events for you to browse.
- Career Services – provides services to empower students by facilitating personalized career exploration through experiential learning, advising and job search assistance.
- ‘Cuse Works (Student Employment) – helps students connect to on- and off-campus jobs (both Federal Work-Study and non-Federal Work Study).
- Campus Transportation – provides information on campus shuttle schedules, shuttle escorts, options for commuter students as well as information for external transportation resources (e.g., Amtrak, Greyhound, taxis, etc.).
- GoCentroBus – a mobile application for the Centro bus system that hosts information on bus schedules, routes and ride passes.
- Parking and Transportation Services – the one-stop shop for parking permits, shuttle information, lot directions and maps and information on accessible transportation.
- Barnes Center at The Arch – as the hub for student wellness at Syracuse University, the Barnes Center offers programs and services that promote holistic health and well-being in one centralized space on campus.
- Orange Safe – a mobile app that helps students stay connected, receive important campus notifications and communicate with campus safety (all Syracuse University students are encouraged to download Orange Safe).
- Student Support and Outreach (SOS) – assists students in identifying and removing barriers to help students meet their goals.
