Student Empowerment Day

February 8, 2023 at 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
State Capitol Building, Albany, NY

Student Empowerment Day is a statewide legislation rally to advocate for additional funding for students with disabilities at the State Capitol in Albany. This legislative day is being coordinated by a coalition of higher education professionals on campuses throughout New York State, as well as statewide higher education student disability groups like Syracuse University’s Disability Cultural Center, InclusiveU, and Syracuse University’s Center for Disability Resources. With the support of the New York State Education Department, a proposal to request funds for “Enhanced Supports” is happening again this year. Together, we have asked for New York State support in funding additional programs to assist students with disabilities in higher education. Please consider lending your time and your energy to join students with disabilities from across New York State for this very important event. We welcome you and members of your organizations, and encourage your involvement to show unity and to send a clear message that people with disabilities are vital and represent a legitimate sector of students in higher education and, as such, are worth the investment! Sign up using the Qualtrics link below to participate and receive updated information. Your participation is vital to successful advocacy for more funding. Transportation to and from the event will be provided by the University. We need you to be there and show solidarity. The need for support of students with disabilities in higher education has never been greater than it is now!
