This minor introduces students to the field of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBTQ+) Studies. The minor is open and welcoming to all students and offers a sustained opportunity to learn about LGBTQ+ experience, history and scholarship, as well as explore fundamental questions about sexualities, bodies, identities, communities, social movements, and liberation politics.
As an interdisciplinary field, LGBTQ+ Studies critically examine the significance of sexuality and gender identity to social organization, cultural production, and historical change from a wide range of academic disciplines. The flexibility of the minor curriculum allows students to focus their studies in a particular area of interest, intersect with their major(s), or explore a diverse array of topics across different cultures and historical periods. The minor also offers a range of courses through SU Abroad programs.
