Spring 2026 Required Tasks
It is encouraged to complete required tasks as soon as possible. Failure to complete may result in losing the ability to register for classes, additional charges and/or a conduct hold on your student account, hindering studying abroad, participating in Greek Life and more. Please note: these required tasks are for new students only.
Start Here.
To complete your required tasks, it will be helpful to understand the terminology and tools the University uses.
- SUID Number: This is a nine-digit number located on the top right of the admission notification. This should not be shared with other students.
- NetID: This is often a first (and maybe middle) initial, all or part of your last name and possibly a number. It is derived automatically from your name based on available NetIDs. Note that no two NetIDs are the same.
- Password: This is associated with all online portals and platforms requiring a student to access sensitive, personal information. This includes email, patient portal, wellness portal, MySlice and more.
- Email: Your email is your NetID followed by @syr.edu. Upon matriculation to the University, all communication will be sent to this email, not personal emails. It is a good idea to begin using this email to communicate with all University representatives, offices, professors, advisors and students.
Deadlines: Many essential deadlines are designated for prompt completion due to the unique timeline established for students beginning in Spring 2026. The condensed window between the acknowledgment of your acceptance and the beginning of classes, coupled with planned University closures in December, necessitates swift and decisive action. We encourage you to prioritize the immediate completion of all Required Tasks. This ensures a seamless progression to key milestones, including securing course registration, finalizing housing assignments and initiating your successful Syracuse University experience.

Apply for Benefits
Students using VA Education Benefits for the first time must apply directly through the VA to determine eligibility. Once the VA processes your application, they will mail you a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) outlining your education benefits. Please send a copy of your COE to the Office of Veteran Success (OVS) at veterans@syr.edu. If you have questions about the application or eligibility requirements, please contact the VA through Ask.VA or by calling 1-888-442-4551.
Request for Certification (RFC)
Syracuse University requires students using VA education benefits to complete a Request for Certification (RFC) form each semester they register for courses and wish to use their benefits. The RFC can be found in the Financial Aid To-Do list within your MySlice account (your Syracuse University student portal). If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Office of Veteran Success (OVS) at veterans@syr.edu.
- Undergraduate students using the Post-9/11 GI Bill® can submit the RFC before registering, once they have received a pre-bill from the Bursar’s Office. For students using CH 30, 35 & 1606, please submit your form once registered for courses.
- Graduate students do not receive a pre-bill, so they should submit the RFC after finalizing their course registration for an upcoming term.
