    • If you’re interested in a Living Learning Community (first-year students only), you will have the option to find other students with that same interest.
    • Please review the provided guide on how to find & match with roommates within the housing application on the Housing Portal.
    • Keep in mind that as Spring goes on and more students commit to Syracuse, your pool of possible connections and roommates will grow.
    • Complete your Roommate Questionnaire in the Housing Portal promptly. If you opt not to select your roommate, the Housing Office will utilize your roommate questionnaire to assign a compatible roommate.
  • Contact: For questions, to request accommodations or to verify completion of this task, please contact Housing, Meal Plan, and ID Card Services at housing@syr.edu or call 315.443.2721.

Please note: Students are strongly encouraged to contact their roommate to become acquainted and begin a discussion on sharing a room. Students will have some important things to discuss and consider as they begin a new roommate relationship. Once settled into their room, students will have follow-up discussions and complete a roommate agreement, administered through Residential Living. We realize that sharing a living space with someone new can create anxiety and stress for some, but we’re hopeful that students will be able to connect with new roommates prior to coming to campus and get to know one another.

The ease at which you can unload your car should help you determine what to pack. Students should bring only the essentials. Explore the New Student Checklists webpage for detailed packing checklists and recommendations.

  • Date Available: Mid-July.
  • Due: Open from the mid-July date through August 14, 2026.
  • Required For: Any new student living on campus in Fall 2026.
  • Instructions:
    • Students will be able to self‑select a move‑in appointment in the Housing Portal prior to their arrival on campus.
    • Move-in appointment selection occurs on a rolling basis. The date you become eligible to select an appointment is based on your assigned residence hall.
      • For example, if your selection date is a Friday but your friend’s is the Tuesday before, it simply means you are living in different residence halls — you will both have access to the same available move-in timeslots.
    • You will receive an email at your Syracuse University email address (i.e. @syr.edu) once you are eligible to select a timeslot. This notification will be included in the same email as your housing assignment.
    • You may also change your appointment if you are no longer able to move in at your originally selected time.
    • If you are part of a Pre-Welcome program or a sponsored departmental early arrival group (e.g. Division I Athletic Team), your timeslot will be automatically assigned to match your group’s approved arrival date and cannot be adjusted.

Available move-in dates for students to select:

  • Monday, August 17, 2026
  • Tuesday, August 18, 2026
  • Wednesday, August 19, 2026

Timeslots each day will vary in number based on the size of the residence hall, but will span 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Students may also select “After 5 p.m.” as a timeslot; however, please note that move-in during this time will be unassisted, though moving bins will be available for use.

  • Contact: For questions, to request accommodations or to verify completion of this task, please contact Housing, Meal Plan, and ID Card Services at housing@syr.edu or call 315.443.2721.
