Beginning in Fall 2023, students are able to design their course schedule with our Shared Competencies in mind. The Shared Competencies are six learning goals that enhance your experience at Syracuse University. Students achieve the Shared Competencies through major degree courses, liberal arts requirements, electives, campus jobs and co-curricular experiences. The Shared Competencies include the following.

  • Ethics, Integrity, and Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
  • Critical and Creative Thinking
  • Scientific Inquiry and Research Skills
  • Civic and Global Responsibility
  • Communication Skills
  • Information Literacy and Technological Agility

You will see your courses tagged with up to three competencies and will highlight the knowledge and skills you can expect to gain in that course.
