Marissa Willingham

Marissa L. Willingham is a passionate leader and advocate for student success with over 18 years of experience in Higher Education. Throughout her career, Marissa has developed and executed impactful programs that enhance student success and retention. She has served on numerous committees and led initiatives focused on celebrating culture, advancing social justice, fostering community engagement, and supporting leadership development. Known for her student-centered approach, Marissa serves as a role model, advocate, and confidant, consistently supporting students’ academic, professional, and personal growth.

Beyond her work at the university, Marissa is a board member of Image Initiative Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering teenage girls, and serve as a board member of Southside Academy Charter School (K-8th grade), on the Southside of Syracuse NY.

Before coming to Syracuse University, Marissa worked for a non-profit, InterFaith Works of Central New York, where she played a key role in facilitating dialogues on race and ethnicity and recruiting diverse participants. She also coordinated the Community Wide Duck Race to End Racism, showcasing her commitment to promoting equity and unity within the Syracuse and surrounding communities.

Beyond her professional achievements, Marissa is a devoted mother of three and remains passionate about enriching the lives of others, embodying the spirit of giving back and uplifting her community.
