Most of Wei’s career has been in education—ranging from universities to private high schools to ethnic community language school—and therefore, she has gained a deep understanding about educational systems, both locally and internationally. Wei has developed a comparative lens between educational beliefs and practices here in the US and the Chinese educational system she grew up in. She is fully aware of the expectations of international parents and students, as well as the historical background and cultural customs beneath the surface. These insights allow her to craft effective communications and strategies to build pathways with international partners.
Since joining Syracuse University in 2018, Wei acted as the first point-of-contact between SU and the international populations who come to Syracuse to get an education in America. Wei works collaboratively with other departments on campus to lead programs and services for international students in order to create a more inclusive community where the international students can have the sense of belonging and support.
As an educator with more than 20 years of experience, and as a mom who has raised 3 kids through K-12 and higher education, Wei is keenly aware of the international education field and have been on top of all the trends and changes that have occurred in the past decades. She is always ready to assist students in need and advocate for international students’ equity and inclusion.
