About the Band
The Tijuana Danger Dogs began in 2011 as a collaboration between Michael Toyryla (AKA Johnny Danger) and Jesse Wheeler, in what was to be an outlet for the pop and electronic ideas they couldn’t use in their other projects. The two met in 1999 and their chemistry was evident immediately. They formed several hard rock bands together and earned their stripes gigging regularly and releasing multiple independent recordings.
In 2010, a tragic accident nearly killed Johnny, leaving him paralyzed and his musical ambitions an afterthought. Defying the odds, his recovery progressed, and he and Jesse began working together again: Tijuana Danger Dogs (TDD) was born as a studio project. The band released several singles and an EP from 2012-2014. In late 2014, Mike and Jesse decided to expand the horizons of the TDD project and create a live act, which would feature original songs as well as fresh takes on covers. The current lineup rounded out in 2017 with Caleb Wheeler on drums and Keagan Toyryla on bass and vocals. Caleb and Keagan just happen to be Johnny and Jesse’s sons—yes, this is a true “Rock and Roll family.”
The band released the EP’s “Aurora Carnivora” in October 2017 and “All My Friends: Vol. 1” in December 2018. “On Our Way” was released in August 2021 and “No Such Thing as Normal” followed in December 2021. The band signed with New Vine Records in early 2022 and released the first EP under that partnership titled “People Of The Swamp” in April 2022. More new music is expected later in 2022, as the band continues its furious creative pace. Check out their Shows webpage for details on where you can catch them in person.
