Syracuse Welcome is scheduled for Aug. 25-28, 2022. The Fall 2022 Move-In schedule and details can be found below.

Students must have a housing assignment before selecting a move-in day/time. Selections for move-in day/time will take place during mid- to late July, as soon as housing assignments are shared with new students. Details regarding the selection process will be emailed to students’ Syracuse University Email Account (i.e., @syr.edu).

Please note, new residential students who fail to meet these requirements will not be permitted to move into their residence hall or South Campus apartment assignment. Move-in details are subject to change as health and safety guidelines change. 

  • International students living on campus should report to their residence hall (North Campus) or Goldstein Student Center (South Campus) upon arrival on Aug. 19-20, 2022.
  • Students moving in for a Pre-Welcome program will receive specific details separately about their move-in date, time and process. This group of students should not sign up for an arrival pass in July.
  • Students in Living Learning Communities (LLC) and those arriving Aug. 23-25, 2022 will participate in the Move-In Registration process.

When you arrive at your residence hall during your scheduled move-in time, you will be greeted by volunteers to assist you. Here are some tips to make this process as smooth as possible.

  • Students will receive an Arrival Pass in August in their Syracuse University email (i.e. @syr.edu). Print this and place it on the dashboard of the vehicle.
  • If arriving by rideshare, the driver may pull up to the residence hall during the assigned move-in time.
  • Plan for minimal family members/supporters to accompany students in the residence hall at one time.
  • Someone must remain with the vehicle while in the unloading area at all times. It cannot be left unattended due to the number of people that need to move in.
  • Before gaining access to the room, the student will go through the check-in process inside the residence hall. While the student completes this process, Goon Squad members, Orientation Leaders, faculty and staff will assist with unloading the vehicle.
  • If you have shipped any items ahead, students may sign for those packages at the Main Desk of the residence hall.
  • Once the vehicle is unloaded, the driver should park the vehicle in the designated parking lot. This may require riding a shuttle or walking back to the residence hall.

Living Learning Communities (LLCs) provide a distinct, personalized housing experience based on your academic interests, passions and studies. Plus, you live on the same floor with other LLC students who share common interests! LLC residents have exclusive access to faculty, staff and peer leaders, and participate in social activities and outings together. In summary, these students will not participate in the move-in registration process. The Pre-Welcome program sponsors will communicate your specific move-in date (above) with Housing, Meal Plan, and ID Card Services and Student Living so they are prepared for your arrival.

Those accepted into a first-year Living Learning Community (LLC) will have received communication from LLC staff regarding your Move-In details on July 1, 2022.

LLC students will log on to the Housing Portal through MySlice July 11-18, 2022 starting at Noon EDT to register for move-in. LLC students should select Aug. 23, 2022 as their move-in date. Time slots are based on a first come, first served basis.

If you cannot make it to campus on Aug. 23, 2022, that is fine. Please wait your residence hall is scheduled to begin Move-in Registration to pick Aug. 24 or 25. Move-in Registration is based on a staggered schedule according to residence hall assignment and will take place beginning July 18-20, 2022.

Students participating in the sports below should receive and follow specific instructions from their coach or Athletics representative. These teams will not participate in the Move-In Registration process.

Marching Band should follow their move-in instructions regarding their various early arrival dates.

Living Learning Communities (LLC) students and those moving in during Traditional Move-In (Aug. 24-25) will participate in move-in registration following the New Student Move-in Registration Schedule. International students and those participating in a Pre-Welcome Program should  Follow the directions below to complete the move-in registration process.

  1. Ensure you have completed your Prioritized Required Tasks. Failure to do so will prevent you from completing this process.
  2. Using the New Student Move-in Registration Schedule, find your residence hall to see the date you will be able to log on and register for move-in.
  3. Log on to MySlice, navigate to Student Resources -> Housing and Meal Plans.
  4. Under "Assignments" on the Home tab, you will see your Fall 2022 Housing Assignment and a section for Move-in Registration.
  5. Click "Select Time Block" and select the time block that best fits your arrival plans.
  6. Click "Update My Time" to save your selection.
  7. If that time block is not available, you will see a message indicating that there are no available spaces remaining in the time block you selected. Please choose another.
  8. Your registration will remain on your self service screen, allowing you to update your time until August 7, 2022. After this date, you will not be able to change your time block.

Please note that you will be able to continue to change your time block until August 7. Once you change your time block, your previous time block will become available to another student to select.

The time blocks are carefully designed to make sure traffic, elevators, staffing and more can handle the move-in process. If you do not see your desired time block, please follow the instructions below.

  • Before Aug. 7, 2022: If the time block you are looking for is not available and it is still prior to Aug. 7, 2022, please continue to check the self service page. As students change time blocks, their previous time block will come available immediately to other students to select.   • After Aug. 7, 2022: If the time block you are looking for is not available and the self service page has closed, please email New Student and Family Programs with details about the conflict. Our office will provide direction and next steps. Please note that most requests will not be honored due to the capacity of the residence hall elevators, traffic patterns, staffing and more.

Once you receive your housing and roommate assignment, it is recommended that you explore building floor plans. All student rooms are furnished with a bed (extra-long twin 36”x80”), dresser, desk, desk chair and closet or wardrobe for each student.


Housing, Meal Plan, and ID Card Services will notify students of their housing assignment and roommate around mid-July through their Syracuse email address (i.e. @syr.edu). Move-In Registration details are included in that email.

Room and roommate assignments will be emailed to students. Assignments reflect a random placement into one of 16 residential facilities on both North and South Campus. All new first-year students are placed on North Campus while new transfer students are traditionally placed into the transfer student community within the South Campus SkyHalls.

We strongly encourage you to contact your roommate to become acquainted and begin a discussion on sharing a room. You will have some important things to discuss and consider as you begin a relationship with your new roommate. Once you arrive and are settled into your room, you will have follow-up discussions and complete a roommate agreement, administered through Student Living. We realize that sharing a living space with someone new can create anxiety and stress for some, but we’re hopeful that you will be able to connect with your new roommate prior to coming to campus and get to know them.

Please understand that the University will not grant room changes for any reason prior to your on-campus arrival. Collectively as a University we believe that the residential college experience is about learning new things and meeting/living with people who are different from you. We think that you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the connections that you can make when you step outside of your comfort zone.

Residence halls will be prepared to begin receiving packages so you can lighten the load of your trip to Syracuse! The residence halls will begin receiving packages on August 19, 2022. Do not ship items prior to this date.

Your shipping and mailing address is shown on your housing assignment confirmation. You will be assigned a mailbox at your residence hall check-in. All South Campus apartments have mailbox clusters for mail delivery. They are located close to apartments and along walkways and driveways. Each apartment is assigned a mailbox. Residents are issued mailbox keys at check-in. Clusters also contain package delivery boxes for large items.

    • Housekeeping: A full-time University housekeeping staff employed by Facility Services cleans lounges, public bathrooms and other public areas seven days a week. Students are responsible for cleaning their own room.
    • Laundry: Clothes washers and dryers are provided in all residence halls and on South Campus for any residential studentno money needed! The Syracuse University Campus Store offers a dry cleaning service.
    • Linens: Students will need to bring their own bed linens, pillows and towels to campus.
    • Storage: There is no storage in the residence halls or South Campus apartments for the summer or a semester abroad. Lazybones is the University's official storage company for students. Learn more today!
