Arriving


When planning for your campus arrival, students and families are encouraged to explore the following. For additional information or questions, please contact New Student Programs.

Step One: Register

Students arriving before Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2023 will receive an email from Housing, Meal Plan, and I.D. Card Services about arriving to campus and should not participate in this process.

  1. Log in to MySlice
  2. Select Student Resources Tile
  3. Select Housing & Meal Plan Tile
  4. Select an available move-in date/time. This process is "self-service" until Monday, Aug. 6, 2023.

  1. Complete the Commuter Arrival Pass request form.
  2. Complete by Friday, Aug. 11, 2023.

Step Two: Receive and Print Arrival Pass

Please Note: Failure to complete some Required Tasks may prevent eligibility. Please take action as soon as possible.

Students approved to arrive prior to Aug. 22, 2023, will receive an email from Housing, Meal Plan, and I.D. Card Services. Please ensure to complete the following instructions. Learn more about who this applies to by visiting the On-Campus Living webpage.

  • Ensure that the student's information is correct within the email.
  • Please print and show the Residence Hall main desk upon arrival. This lets the residence hall staff know that the student is allowed to move-in earlier than Aug. 22.

After students complete the Move-In Registration process, an Arrival Pass will be emailed to the student's Syracuse University Email (i.e. @syr.edu) in mid-August.  Please ensure to complete the following instructions.  Learn more on the On-Campus Living webpage.

  • The email will have the subject, "ATTENTION: This is your 2023 Arrival Pass."
  • Ensure that the student's information is correct within the email.
  • Print the email and place on the vehicle dashboard. Please print multiple copies for multiple vehicles.
  • This Arrival Pass should be visible to staff upon campus arrival and throughout Syracuse Welcome (e.g. in holding lines, while at residence halls, as a parking pass).

New students that are living at home and will be commuting to campus are asked to complete the Commuter Student Arrival Pass Request Form by Friday, August 11, 2023.

After students complete the Commuter Student Arrival Pass Request Form, an Arrival Pass will be emailed to the student's Syracuse University Email (i.e. @syr.edu) in mid-August.  Please ensure to complete the following instructions.

  • The email will have the subject, "ATTENTION: This is your 2023 Arrival Pass."
  • Ensure that the student's information is correct within the email.
  • Print the email and place on the vehicle dashboard. Please print multiple copies for multiple vehicles.
  • This Arrival Pass should be visible to staff upon campus arrival and throughout Syracuse Welcome. This will allow you to park on campus from Aug. 22-27, 2023.

Step Three: Arriving and Check-In

Upon arrival to campus, students are required to complete different check-in processes. Without first checking in, students will be unable to move into their residence halls. Learn where to go first, the check-in process and more. Please note, failure to complete some Required Tasks  as noted may prevent check-in and/or move-in.


Step Four: Move-In (Residential Students)

Please note, failure to complete some Required Tasks  as noted may prevent check-in and/or move-in. 

  1. Proceed to the holding line associated with the student’s residence hall.
  2. Once cleared, proceed to the residence hall’s unloading zone.
  3. A driver must remain with the vehicle at all times. Goon Squad members help unload vehicle and place belongings into moving bins. Orientation Leaders and staff volunteers will greet students, families and supporters. Students will proceed inside the residence hall to complete the check-in process.
  4. Once vehicle is unloaded, the driver must relocate the vehicle to the parking lot associated with the student’s residence hall. Department of Public Safety and Parking and Transportation Services staff will provide specific directions when leaving the residence hall.
    1. For Day, Flint and Shaw Halls, a shuttle is provided between the Colvin and Comstock Lots and the residence halls.
    2. For all other residence halls, parking is located near the residence hall.

Step Five: Attend Orientation

  • International students should plan to attend International Student Orientation beginning Sunday, Aug. 20, 2023.
  • If a student is arriving for a Pre-Welcome Program, they should refer to schedule details shared by their Pre-Welcome Program sponsoring office.
  • Beginning Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023, students should attend Syracuse Welcome. Syracuse Welcome is Syracuse University’s required orientation program for students new to campus in the fall semester. Learn more on the Welcome Schedules webpage.
