Butch Hallmark
Director, New Student and Transition Programs
Butch Hallmark is the Director of New Student and Transition Programs. In this role, Butch creates and fosters collaborative relationships across campus to actualize effective and strategic efforts related to welcoming and supporting new students, provides oversight to New Student Programs, and direct departmental initiatives to further diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility as part of first-year and transfer student programming, inclusive of Welcome Week, New Student Orientation, Spring New Student Orientation and more. Butch earned a bachelor’s degree in human environmental sciences at the University of Alabama, where he also served as Big Al — the university’s mascot. He continued his education by receiving a master’s degree in higher education administration at the University of Alabama.
Nick Stines
Senior Program Coordinator, New Student Programs
Nick Stines is the senior program coordinator in New Student Programs. In this role, Nick oversees the 'Cuse First and Transfer Transitions Pre-Welcome programs, advises OrangeSeeds and provides support to transfer and first-generation college students throughout the year. Nick earned a B.A. in exercise and sport science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and recently earned an M.Ed. in college student affairs administration from the University of Georgia. While at UGA, Nick worked with Dawg Camp (an extended orientation program), a transition ambassador program and with the Peer Educator Conference in the Division of Academic Enhancement. He was also a NODA (Association for Orientation, Transition, and Retention in Higher Education) intern in the Office of New Student Orientation at the University of South Carolina. Nick's hometown is Dallas, North Carolina. He loves anything to do with sports, listening to music and thrifting.
La Shaun "LS" Jones
Administrative Assistant, New Student Programs
La Shaun “LS” Jones is the administrative assistant in New Student Programs. In this role, LS serves as front-line support to new students and their families via phone and email, as well as oversees the department's budget. LS most recently worked as the lead administrative assistant in the Pediatric Pulmonary Department at SUNY Upstate Medical. She is very passionate about organization and attention to detail and enjoys creative opportunities as an event planner/coordinator. LS is an active member of the event industry and believes in giving back to the community and industry through volunteering. LS coordinates several charity events annually, including for the Northeast Kidney Foundation and Juneteenth. Originally from Long Island, LS has lived in the Syracuse area for 20 years.
