Practical Training Seminars (PT):
SUMMER 2022 and FALL 2022
PT Seminars will be held the first and third Wednesday and second Friday of every month as noted in the schedule below.
- Curricular Practical Training (CPT) begins at 3:00 pm.
- Optional Practical Training (OPT) begins at 3:45 pm.
NOTE: During the Spring semester, we ordinarily hold PT Seminars outside the Center for International Services to accommodate the increased number of applicants.

PROCESSING SCHEDULE
You may have your CPT or OPT application processed:
In person, at the Center for International Services, 310 Walnut Place
- Mondays, 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm
- Thursdays, 10:00 am to 12:00 noon
NOTE: During the Spring semester (February through April), we ordinarily increase processing to 4 days per week to accommodate the increased number of applicants.
By email to international@syr.edu
- Note: CPT and OPT are benefits of F-1 status. You must be in the US. in F-1 status to apply for CPT or OPT. You cannot apply for CPT or OPT from outside the U.S.
- Attach all the required documents to an email to international@syr.edu
- Processing by email will take 3-5 business days.
- I-20s with the CPT authorization or OPT recommendation will be sent to you as an attachment to an email for you to print out and use.
- If you want a hard copy I-20 to be sent to you, on the Practical Training Data Sheet, select your mailing preference for the return of the I-20 recommending OPT or authorizing CPT. You must set up and pay for express mailing through the University Express Mailing Services (UEMS) at the time you email your CPT or OPT application.
