Organization Social Probation Petition

Community Standards has established a pilot program whereby student organizations on a status of Social Probation for periods of two (2) semesters or more may request a review of their status for reconsideration. The details of this opportunity can be found below.

Eligibility and Requirements

If an organization is on a status of Social Probation for more than two (2) academic semesters, you may petition Community Standards for a time reduction of your status under the following circumstances:

  1. The organization has completed at least one-half of its probationary period without further violations.
  2. All other assigned sanctions have been completed by the established deadlines provided by Community Standards.
  3. The organization’s leadership has provided a detailed accountability plan to Community Standards outlining the steps it has/will take to ensure internal accountability for its members.
  4. The organization’s leadership has provided a detailed risk management plan outlining the steps it has/will take to mitigate risk at any social function that it plans to host in the future.
  5. The organization’s leadership has provided a written statement outlining what they have learned since the incident that placed them on probation, and how they plan to positively contribute to the Syracuse University Community if its social probation is lifted.
  6. A letter of support from the organization’s campus advisor for the change in status.
  7. Submitting an up-to-date Membership Roster with names and SUID’s and contact information.

Organizations that have assigned sanctions that are due after the submission of this form (ex. Community Service) may still complete this form, but understand that the failure to complete assigned sanctions on time may result in the reinstatement of their Social Probation status and will not be eligible for further reconsideration.

This reconsideration does not apply to any other status put in placeĀ (ex. Conduct Probation). by Community Standards, Student Engagement, Student Association, FASA or any Greek Lettered Council (IFC, PanHel, NALFO, MGC, NPHC, or PFC).

Incomplete petitions will not be reviewed. The Director of Community Standards the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs shall review all requests and may consult with Organization advisors, and/or National Headquarters as appropriate.

If the petition is accepted, the Director of Community Standards and/or the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs may implement any conditions deemed appropriate for organizations whose status is altered.

How to Start: Complete the Petition to Reconsider Social Probation form.
