Join The UCB

Thank you for your interest in the University Conduct Board (UCB)! The UCB provides an opportunity for students to serve the University community by promoting civility and citizenship within the University community. The UCB adjudicates hearings for students going through the university conduct process. Members of the UCB also promote awareness of the Student Conduct Code via outreach activities. As a member of the UCB you will gain skills in critical thinking, public speaking, and collaboration.

Applicant Requirements

  • Applicants must be matriculated full-time undergraduate or graduate students at Syracuse University.
  • Both on-campus and off-campus students may apply.
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5. First Year students may provide an academic record from high school.
  • Disciplinary or academic violations committed at Syracuse University or elsewhere must be disclosed.
  • Prior violations will not automatically disqualify applicants but are taken into consideration by the selection committee.
  • Students who are currently on Conduct Probation are not eligible.

Board Member Expectations

  • Keep at least one weekly hearing time open: typically Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday evenings after 5 p.m., or Friday afternoons after 1 p.m. (Members who are unable to keep at least one hearing time available will not be able to continue as a UCB member.)
  • Attend all regularly scheduled trainings.
  • Participate in conduct hearings regarding violations of the Code of Student Conduct.
  • Conduct oneself in a trustworthy, professional and confidential manner.
  • Abide by all University policies and the Code of Student Conduct.
  • Recommend reasonable, fair and educational sanctions when appropriate.
  • Actively participate in a team of your peers to assist with the recruitment of new members.
  • Represent the interests and needs of the student body to Community Standards.
