We have compiled a list of frequently asked questions to help you prepare for your semester abroad and to join the campus community in the spring.
Orange Welcome Series
The Orange Welcome Series is a schedule of webinars designed for Discovery students. There are additional sessions that parents, families and supporters are welcome to attend. Students may access the Zoom links through their FYS 101 section in their Abroad Center. Students who have questions about accessing these meetings should connect with their FYS 101 instructor.

Discovery FAQ
All incoming students must complete required tasks prior to arriving on main, study abroad or study away campuses. Please review the Required Tasks page for additional details. Syracuse Abroad will have additional required tasks, such as visa applications. Syracuse Abroad will provide additional details after acceptance to the Discovery Program.
New Student Programs hosts the Orange Welcome series for Discovery students. This virtual information series features sessions with the Office of Housing, Meal Plan, and ID Card Services, Student Living, student information panels, information on January orientation and more. Details on session dates and times will be sent to students while they are abroad.
Discovery students will begin receiving Becoming Orange e-Newsletters in November to support ongoing transition and onboarding to main campus. These e-Newsletters will provide critical information regarding move-in, Winter Welcome and more until arriving to campus in January. Students, families and supporters may begin reviewing archived Becoming Orange e-Newsletters as soon as they are sent by visiting the Becoming Orange webpage.
The College of Arts and Sciences |The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and the College of Engineering and Computer Science will meet with Discovery students while they are abroad to complete their spring semester course registration. Registration will take place in mid-November.
Discovery students will apply for spring semester housing in mid-late October via Myslice. Additional details about housing placements will be covered as part of the Orange Welcome series. Questions can also be sent to the Office of Housing, Meal Plan, and ID Card Services at housing@syr.edu.
First Year Seminar (FYS) is a required 1-credit class for all Syracuse University first year students. Discovery students in 2023 will take FYS 101 while abroad.
Discovery students in 2024 will take FYS as part of their main campus course schedule in the spring 2025.
Discovery students participate in Winter Welcome, the University’s required spring orientation program. Students will participate in academic as well as social engagement programs as part of orientation. Some sessions will be available for families and supporters.
