Student Living welcomes you to your new home at Syracuse University! Living with a roommate at college is a new and exciting experience.
Living with another person, whether you knew them previously or not, requires you to make adjustments in your life, just as your roommate will make adjustments in their life for you. The living agreement process provides a space for you and your roommate(s) to discuss and set expectations for your shared living space this year. Some topics of conversation could include communication strategies, guest preferences, cleaning expectations, safety precautions, sleeping environment, and study habits, among other things.
As you think about these topics, please be mindful of all university policies including: the Student Living Policies, Housing Terms and Conditions, and Syracuse University’s Code of Student Conduct.
Did You Know – the majority of roommate conflicts result from lack of communication? The worst ways to address a problem are via: text message, email, and post-its or other notes. We highly encourage you to talk to one another!
With the help of your RA, you and your roommate(s) will engage in intentional conversations about your living environment for the year ahead. You will then complete a Living Agreement, which will remain on file with Student Living to assist in navigating any roommate disagreements moving forward. Following completion of the Living Agreement, your RA and each roommate will have access to your responses via Roompact. Student Living encourages you to revisit this document throughout the year and update it as necessary.
