South Campus Apartments: Inspections began in early September and will continue throughout the academic year. You will be sent an email notice prior to your apartment’s scheduled inspection.
Residence Halls: Inspections will occur in late March and early April 2023 as listed below, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 9 p.m.:
- Week of March 13: Booth, DellPlain, Ernie Davis, Haven, Kimmel/Marion, Walnut, 206 Walnut, Washington Arms
- Week of March 20: Day, Flint, Shaw, and Lyons
- Week of March 27: Boland, Brewster, Brockway, Lawrinson, Marley Center, Sadler
- Week of April 3: Watson, Skyhall II, and Skyhall III
Consistent with the Terms and Conditions, Right of Entry, and under the direction of Fire and Life Safety Services, Student Living will conduct periodic health and safety inspections of residential units and will announce dates of inspections in advance. At times where emergency, safety, or security conditions are present, such notice may be impractical and is specifically waived. Inspections will be scheduled to occur during reasonable hours to not significantly interfere with sleep and study. For safety and security, Student Living may be accompanied by other University personnel during an announced or unannounced inspection. You do not need to be present for inspections.
Inspections will be conducted as plain-view inspections. This means that SL staff will not open drawers or closets. SL staff may need to move or look under/behind furniture to check for safety concerns and visibly check electrical outlets. While the purpose of the inspection is not to search for policy violations, any prohibited items observed in plain view or visibly protruding from open doors/drawers/closets will be confiscated. Confiscated items will be disposed of and will not be returned (see Prohibited Item Policy). Depending upon the prohibited item observed, SL staff may need to contact the Department of Public Safety for assistance.
Following the inspection, a copy of the inspection summary will be provided to you/emailed to you. If there are any alleged policy violations, you will receive separate communication regarding the resolution process for the alleged violations from either Community Standards or Student Living.
1.2a Residence Hall Inspection Notice and Time
Student Living will conduct inspections twice per academic year, in addition to the inspection that occurs between fall and spring semesters. Students will be notified the week prior to the inspection occurring. General notice will also be provided on the SL website regarding the date inspections are beginning. Inspections will occur at reasonable times of the day so as to have minimal impact on sleep and study, typically between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m., Monday – Friday.
1.2b South Campus Apartment Inspection Notice and Time
Student Living will conduct inspections at least once per academic year in each apartment. Students will be notified about one week prior to the inspection occurring. General notice will also be provided on the SL website regarding the date inspections are beginning. Inspections will occur at reasonable times of the day so as to have minimal impact on sleep and study, typically between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday – Friday.
