Students may be advised throughout the conduct process by a procedural adviser (P.A). Persons who may serve as procedural advisors are limited to full-time students, faculty, and staff of Syracuse University (for exceptions, see May I have an attorney as my Procedural Advisor?). Assignment of a procedural advisor is based on availability and is not guaranteed.
It is strongly recommended that students initiate their request for a P.A. as soon as possible to allow enough time to obtain a P.A. and prepare for their upcoming meeting with Community Standards. If possible, requests for a Procedural Advisor should be made at least 72 hours prior to a meeting/hearing. It is the student’s responsibility to contact the P.A. to set up a time to meet and discuss their upcoming resolution meeting or formal hearing.
A list of trained procedural advisors by Community Standards can be found below. These individuals have undergone additional training in the student conduct process. Students are encouraged to request their case file from Community Standards prior to their meeting with their chosen P.A. Students can request their case file by visiting Community Standards at 804 University Avenue, Suite 106, and completing the record release form.
It is important to note: The P.A. is available to advise on the conduct process, but it is the student’s responsibility to prepare their own case. A P.A. is not permitted to speak on behalf of the students, but can advise in a non-disruptive manner.
Students may contact Prof. Gregory Germain (glgermai@syr.edu) to request a law school student as their P.A. Information for law school students and Prof. Germain can be found below. Law school students are not considered attorneys and are permitted to serve as a P.A. for any student conduct case as outlined in the Student Conduct System Handbook.
