Know Your Rights in the Conduct Process
The right to have a fair process with an objective conduct officer.
The right to review the case file.
The right to participate in the resolution process and the opportunity to respond to the allegations.
This includes asking questions and proposing outcomes.
The right to appeal.
The right to know the Student Conduct Code charges and the basis of the allegations.
The right to a procedural advisor.
Must be a faculty, staff or student of Syracuse University.
The right to a formal hearing.
Under Part 9 of the Statement on Student Rights and Accountability outlined in the Student Conduct System Handbook, Syracuse University students have the right to fundamental fairness in any formal disciplinary processes of the University for violations of the Student Conduct Code; as provided in the published procedures of the University’s Conduct System or other official University publications. Students have the right to written notice and the opportunity for a formal or informal hearing before any change in status is incurred for disciplinary reasons, unless a significant threat to persons or property exists.
