Majors

The words “major” and “career” are not interchangeable. Often your major doesn’t lock you into a career path. Your major helps you discover your interests, explore your options and build your academic foundation.

Deciding on a major can seem like an intimidating task. We recommend that you start by asking the following questions. We also suggest speaking with a member of the Career Services team, meeting with your academic advisor or speaking with a close loved one.

  • What interests me?
  • What am I good at?
  • What do I do for fun?
  • What experiences do I already have? What do I enjoy about them?
  • What are my goals? How does this major fit with them?
  • What classes do I enjoy attending the most?
  • Is there any subject I know I don’t want to consider?

Explore over 200 academic programs and majors, in addition to over 100 minors at Syracuse University. If you’re interested in multiple programs, we suggest that you also consider a minor. A minor can expand on your major or allow you to explore a different field. To gather a better understanding of what courses to anticipate within a program, we encourage you to explore the Course Catalog.
