Midterms can be stressful, and sometimes you just need a quiet place to reset. The Crowley Family MindSpa, offers a welcoming, accessible and private space for students, faculty and staff to practice and prioritize self-care by providing access to a variety of mindfulness and self-care activities, tools and resources.
Setting aside time to de-stress can be tough when you’re balancing schoolwork and other responsibilities. The MindSpa is designed to make that a little easier, offering a dedicated space for wellness activities like coloring and massage chairs, with 30-minute appointments that can fit into your schedule.
Through the Barnes Wellness Portal, students, faculty and staff can book a 30-minute appointment for massage chairs or a multipurpose wellness room.
Located on the first floor of the Barnes Center at The Arch, the MindSpa multipurpose room offers a Zen garden, sensory items, along with floor space to unwind or do yoga. There are additional wellness items available to try; visitors can also borrow activities and mindfulness tools such as Muse headbands, which measure brain health and cognitive performance as well as help with focus and sleep. Other options also include coloring supplies, fidget toys, meditation pillows and more!
MindSpa rooms are equipped with light therapy boxes that mimic outdoor light. These boxes use simulated light to help with seasonal-related conditions, reduce stress, stabilize mood and improve sleep — giving visitors a way to manage the gloominess and cold of long Syracuse winters. For added quiet and privacy, noise cancellation machines are provided in each room.
Depending on your preference and comfort level, the MindSpa also offers private and non-private massage chairs as another space to decompress. The massage chairs are a great place to release body tension, nap or practice mindfulness with Headspace.
Take a break from the midterm grind and give yourself some time to reset at the MindSpa. Start your wellness journey at the MindSpa today!
The MindSpa is open Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
