Vigil in Remembrance of People with Disabilities Murdered by Family Members and Caregivers
According to the Autistic Self Advocacy Network, people with disabilities are twice as likely as people without disabilities to be victims of violent crime. Often times, the murder of people with disabilities by family members or caregivers goes unnoticed in the media, and when it is covered, the story often focuses on sympathy for the murderer because they had to live with or care for a person with a disability. The vigil remembers those lost and reminds the world that their lives had value.
