In honor of Latine Heritage Month (LHM), Belonging and Student Success, various registered student organizations and campus partners will host an array of programs and events for the Syracuse University community to attend, celebrate and learn more about Latine culture and communities. All are welcome to come celebrate all month!
Tuesday, Sept. 15, noon-3 p.m.: Latine Heritage Month Kickoff
Join the Latine Heritage Month Planning Committee in kicking off our monthlong celebration of Latine heritage and history! Enjoy food, giveaways, music, a photo booth and more while coming together to celebrate Latinidad in all its beautiful forms. All are welcome.
Saturday, Sept. 19, 1-4 p.m.: Torneo de Fútbol
Join the South American and Latine Student Association (SALSA) and the Barnes Center at The Arch for the annual Torneo de Fútbol tournament, a one-day soccer tournament where campus community members compete and learn about the importance of fútbol in the Latine community. Registration is open to the entire campus community. All are welcome.
Saturday, Sept. 19, 6-9 p.m.: “Quinceañera Dreams”
Marking its 15th anniversary in 2026, La Casita Cultural Center presents “Quinceañera Dreams,” a new exhibition and immersive celebration of one of the most cherished traditions in Latino culture—the quinceañera. Through community-sourced photographs, video, oral histories, family memorabilia, stunning gowns and multimedia installations, “Quinceañera Dreams” explores the history, beauty and cultural significance of this beloved coming-of-age tradition that connects generations. Opening night will include a live quinceañera celebration as a local Latino family shares their daughter’s special day in full traditional attire and ceremony, as well as guided tours of the exhibition, music and authentic Cuban buffet. All are welcome.
Friday, Oct. 2, 6-7:30 p.m.: Pioneering Change: Open Mic Night at The Warehouse
Join us for a curated evening of music and literary performances that engage with themes of belonging, social justice, advocacy and more. Doors open at 5 p.m. and performances start at 6 p.m. All are welcome.
This event is in conjunction with the “Salt City Responds Exhibition” and is jointly hosted by the Intercultural Collective, Student Government Association and the Sue and Leon Genet Gallery.
Wednesday, Oct. 14: Closing Celebrations
- Color the Calavera, 6:30-7:30 p.m.: Join the Student Government Association in painting sugar skulls as we approach Día de los Muertos. Bring your calavera or other pictures and offerings to be included in the Intercultural Collective ofrenda. All are welcome.
- Miércoles Gigante!, 7:30-9:30 p.m.: To end Latine Heritage Month, your favorite Latine student orgs will be hosting the LHM closing celebration! This event will feature food, music and games, as well as showcase the excellence of Latine organizations on campus. All are welcome!
