The leaves are slowly turning and there’s a breeze in the air — fall is approaching! Autumn is one of the most gorgeous seasons in the Central New York (CNY) region, and you should make the most of it. That’s why we compiled a list of fall activities you should do to make the most of autumn in CNY.
Tim’s Pumpkin Patch
What’s more fall than a pumpkin patch? Head over to Tim’s Pumpkin Patch for all the autumn fun. Take a wagon ride, grab an apple cider donut, and pick your own pumpkins! And personally, I think a pumpkin would look great in your dorm.

Abbott Farms Apple Picking
Apple Orchards are truly one of the best places to spend a fall day. Abbott Farms has a “U-Pick” farm, allowing you to pick your own fruits and vegetables depending on the season. Right now, it’s apples and pumpkins — yay fall! Check out their website to see what apple varieties they have going on.
The Barnes Center offers weekend trips to Abbott Farms, and there are two upcoming trips on September 26 and October 17. Book your spot and get some apples! Trips generally cost $5 for undergraduate students.
Beak and Skiff
Yes, it’s another apple orchard, but Syracuse truly has the best ones. Every fall requires a trip to Beak and Skiff. From fall baked goods to apple picking and good vibes, Beak and Skiff is a great option if you want a relaxing fall day filled with good food.
Check their events calendar to see if they have anything fun going on the weekend of your visit — they definitely know how to bring the good vibes.

Take a Hike!
There’s a huge amount of hikes, trails, hills, mountains, waterfalls, lakes and more around CNY! Taking a walk or hike is the best way to truly appreciate the scenery and fall foliage in the region during this time of year.
The Barnes Center offers many hiking trips across the CNY region as well as backpacking trips. You can see what hikes or backpacking trips are being offered on the Wellness Portal. Hikes generally range from $5-10 for undergraduate students.
Horseback Riding at the Barnes Center
Yes, you read that right. The Barnes Center offers horseback riding at Highland Forest at a low cost to all undergraduate students! This is the perfect, fun fall adventure and a great way to get off-campus — transportation is provided!
Horseback riding fills up quickly, so be sure to check if there are any open spaces sooner rather than later! This adventure trip is only available during the fall, so make sure to take advantage of it now!
Fall in the CNY region is full of fun and whimsy. Make the most of it, enjoy some nature, and spend time with friends! Happy Fall, Syracuse.
