Haynie was named Syracuse University’s 13th Chancellor and President in March 2026, joining a long line of leaders who have helped shape its history. Now, Syracuse students have a chance to see that history continue right here on campus. Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026: Kicking off Festivities

The celebration kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 17, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Schine Student Center with The Summit: Syracuse University Into the Future. The campus community is invited to explore what’s next for our university. Throughout the day, campus will come alive with exhibitions, showcases, a keynote conversation and hands-on collaborative sessions. Whether you’re curious about what’s next for Syracuse (e.g., the university’s strengths in artificial intelligence, experiential inquiry, innovation, global engagement and access) or just want to see what the buzz is about, there will be plenty to explore.
Following, celebrate the true Orange way and join Chancellor Haynie Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. for the Syracuse University vs. Pitt football game watch party. Grab your friends and head to the Miron Victory Court at the JMA Wireless Dome. There will be prizes, food, fun, community and connection.
Friday, Sept. 18, 2026: Investiture Ceremony and Orange Fest
Then, it’s time for the main event! On Friday, Sept. 18, at 2 p.m. the Syracuse community is invited to the JMA Dome to celebrate the start of J. Michael Haynie’s leadership as the University’s 13th Chancellor and President. The event will be livestreamed for those who cannot join on campus.
To wrap up the celebration, Orange Fest will start immediately following the ceremony in the JMA Dome. Turn the ‘Cuse Spirit all the way up while enjoying activities, food, student performances, prizes, the Maker’s Market, a dunk tank and more. Looking for something a little more low-key? Visit the Orange Grove to recharge with therapy dogs.
