This year\u2019s BHM theme is \u201cAfrican Americans and Labor,\u201d underscoring the pivotal role and hard work African Americans put in to shaping our country&#8217;s history. It also emphasizes the importance of self-help strategies and entrepreneurship in Black communities. <span>Explore the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.syracuse.edu\/events\/2025-jan-31\/black-history-month-celebration-events-141206\/\">full calendar of events<\/a><span>, and read on for some highlights of the month!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Black History Month Information Fair and Kickoff<\/h2>\n<p>Join the Black History Month Committee and Student Association on Friday, Jan. 31, for a deep dive into the vibrant cultures and rich traditions of the Black diaspora right here at Syracuse University! Get ready for tablings of Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs), special performances and more! Catch the <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.syracuse.edu\/events\/2025-jan-31\/black-history-month-information-fair-141214\/\">BHM Information Fair<\/a> from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Schine Student Center Atrium, then swing by the <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.syracuse.edu\/events\/2025-jan-31\/black-history-month-kickoff\/\">BHM Kickoff<\/a> from 7-9 p.m. in Goldstein Auditorium.<\/p>\n<h2>Hair Me Out<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.syracuse.edu\/events\/2025-feb-03\/hair-me-out\/\">Hair Me Out<\/a> is a vibrant celebration of Black-owned businesses and local vendors, showcasing a diverse array of offerings\u2014from food and fashion to beauty and haircare. Event attendees can explore unique products and services, including handmade clothing, delicious cuisine and top-notch beauty treatments. It\u2019s more than just shopping\u2014it\u2019s about supporting small Black-owned businesses, providing them a platform to shine and fostering connections within the Syracuse community. You can check out Hair Me Out on Monday, Feb. 3, from noon-2 p.m. in The Underground in Schine.<\/p>\n<h2>Basketball Classic<\/h2>\n<p>Black culture continues to challenge the way society views athletes, the value of their opinions and the consistency of their actions. It has particularly challenged the United States to progress culturally, politically and socially. Join the Black History Month Committee and the <a href=\"https:\/\/experience.syracuse.edu\/bewell\/\">Barnes Center at The Arch<\/a> on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 8:30 p.m. for an exciting <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.syracuse.edu\/events\/2025-feb-19\/basketball-classic\/\">Basketball Classic<\/a> to honor and celebrate the impact Black culture has had on sports and our culture as a whole. This event will allow Syracuse University\u2019s student leaders, faculty and staff to engage in a competitive game while building relationships across campus!<\/p>\n<h2>CuseCon<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.syracuse.edu\/events\/2025-feb-22\/cusecon\/\">CuseCon<\/a> is a groundbreaking event created to celebrate, inspire and empower student creators, entrepreneurs and influencers. Combining the energy of a conference with the vibrancy of an expo, CuseCon offers a unique platform for students to grow, connect and collaborate.
