Thankfully at SU, we have so many on-campus café options, so here is a breakdown of some of the cafés I visited and spotlighted:

Slocum Café
Slocum Café has a great assortment of baked goods and is chalk full of on-the-go options. One of their best offerings is their gourmet sandwiches, which include a fajita chicken salad sandwich and a grilled Portobello sandwich for vegetarians. Beware, they stop serving hot breakfast food at 10:30 a.m., so keep that in mind if you plan on stopping by in the morning.

Falk Café on 2
Although being far away from the central Quad, Falk is the most recently renovated café, which reopened in 2017. They have touch-screen monitors that allow diners to order their food through the touchpad. The café also offers a build-your-own salad bar, which is great for those craving healthy food options.

People’s Place
In the basement of Hendricks Chapel lies the student-run café called People’s Place. While it is cash-only and the only café on the list that does not accept SUpercard FOOD, it is still very affordable and a nice change from the other cafés since it’s been recently revamped and offers food from local Syracuse establishments.

Pages Café
Pages Café does a great job of offering a wide assortment of coffee and tea options, as well as flavored expresso shots, courtesy of Freedom of Espresso. It’s awesome for those late nights studying in Bird because it’s open until 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and serves breakfast and lunch options all-day long.

Food.com
Situated in the center of Newhouse, Food.com offers a well-rounded assortment of café favorites including Queso’s, offering burritos, bowls, and salads (unfortunately, guac is extra). Some unique offerings here are the Bran Grill Texas Sandwich and the Dean Rubin, great to curb your hunger after a long day of class because Food.com is open until 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The one downside to this café is that it can be hard to find seating around lunch hours.

Eggers Café
Eggers Café is hard to come by unless you know where to look, but it is a gem in terms of cafés because it has an amazing view of the campus. For those who want to branch out of ham or turkey sandwiches, Eggers provides several unique options like corned beef and tuna melts. For the vegetarians out there, they also offer a veggie burger and wrap that is sure to hit the spot. They also have mac and cheese and a soup of the day, if you are in the mood for something warm.

Life Sciences Café
Life Science Café has robust breakfast and lunch offerings including an assortment of bagel flavors and plenty of wrap options. One of their best offerings are the fresh-blended smoothies that are made-to-order and include a selection of two fresh fruit add-ins. They also offer energy boosters that can be added to smoothies for those days you didn’t get much sleep.

Starbucks, West Campus
If you are in the mood for something a little familiar, try the Starbucks in West Campus. It accepts SUpercard FOOD and has all of your favorite drinks and treats. This location is also nice because it is a lot less busy than the one on Marshall Street, so you could actually get work done while enjoying your frappuccino.

Honorable Mention:
Goldstein Alumni and Faculty Center
While Faculty isn’t a café per se, it does offer great lunch options, with daily specials and a menu that is regularly updated. It is only open from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and the student seating isn’t always available, so check their Facebook page before stopping by.

Written by Nadia Suleman ’19, S.I.
