Throughout November, the Native Student Program is hosting a series of events in collaboration with student organizations and campus departments. Native Heritage Month is a time to reflect, honor and celebrate the traditions, histories, contributions and cultures of Native people. You can explore the full schedule of events on the <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.syracuse.edu\/events\/2022-nov-01\/native-heritage-month-celebration-events\/\">University Events Calendar<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/experience.syracuse.edu\/multicultural\/calendar\/native-heritage-month\/\">Native Heritage Month webpage<\/a>. Here are a few highlights to check out!<\/p>\n<h2>Ribbon Skirt Workshop<\/h2>\n<p>Have you ever been interested in sewing or making clothes? Join Deb Stalk (Mohawk), who has been sewing for over forty years, for a weekend-long <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.syracuse.edu\/events\/2022-nov-05\/ribbon-skirt-workshop-day-1\/\">Ribbon Skirt Workshop.<\/a>\u00a0Deb will be teaching students how to make a contemporary women\u2019s ribbon skirt from start to finish on Saturday, Nov. 5 and Sunday, Nov. 6 from noon-5 p.m. Each workshop participant will receive a Ribbon Skirt Kit with all the necessary materials. <a href=\"https:\/\/students.syr.edu\/machform\/view.php?id=1032731&amp;_gl=1*1jxcunl*_ga*MjYwMzkxNDE1LjE2NTMzMTExMDU.*_ga_QT13NN6N9S*MTY2NzMyOTM1NS40MTEuMS4xNjY3MzI5NTYwLjMyLjAuMA..\">Registration is required<\/a> for both days and space is limited. Make sure you sign up to guarantee your spot!<\/p>\n<h2>A Taste of Indigeneity<\/h2>\n<p>Are you a food lover? I know I am! Led by Mariah Gladstone, <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.syracuse.edu\/events\/2022-nov-07\/a-taste-of-indigeneity\/\">A Taste of Indigeneity<\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is a great way to learn about the history of Indigenous foods. Mariah is the host of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.indigikitchen.com\/about\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">IndigiKitchen<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, an online cooking show dedicated to re-indigenizing diets using digital media. Mariah will discuss the importance of rediscovering traditional foodways in emotional, physical and spiritual health. This is a great opportunity to learn about other food movements and how to incorporate these into our diets, so don\u2019t miss this event on Nov. 7!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Full Moon Ceremony<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nov. 8 is the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">full moon<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Grab a blanket and make your way over to the Quad for a <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.syracuse.edu\/events\/2022-nov-08\/full-moon-ceremony-77317\/\">Full Moon Ceremony<\/a> at 6:30 p.m. led by the Barnes Center\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/experience.syracuse.edu\/bewell\/diane-schenandoah\/\">Diane Schenandoah \u201911<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/experience.syracuse.edu\/bewell\/honwadiyenawasek-one-who-helps-them\/\">Honwadiyenawa\u2019sek (One who helps them)<\/a>. Here we can thank Grandmother Moon for continuing her duties. Expect to thank and pray for community members, families and loved ones, and sing a woman&#8217;s song to honor Grandmother Moon. Small hand drums and rattles are encouraged, and special guest <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.drumquest.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jimbo Talbot from DrumQuest<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> will be in attendance.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Snipe Clan Botanicals Salve-Making Workshop<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Have you ever struggled with skin irritation or eczema? If so, attend the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.syracuse.edu\/events\/2022-nov-17\/snipe-clan-botanicals-salve-making-workshop\/?_ga=2.19498104.1507313103.1666971371-865690630.1661194744\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Snipe Clan Botanicals Salve-Making Workshop<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> on Nov. 17 from 2-4 p.m. At the workshop, you will learn how to make an all-purpose salve (an ointment used to help and heal) that&#8217;s used for burns, eczema or dry skin. <a href=\"https:\/\/students.syr.edu\/machform\/view.php?id=1032040&amp;_gl=1*ljljxx*_ga*ODY1NjkwNjMwLjE2NjExOTQ3NDQ.*_ga_QT13NN6N9S*MTY2Njk3ODU4NC4zOC4xLjE2NjY5ODYyMzEuNTYuMC4w\">Registration is required<\/a> and space is limited, so be sure to sign up!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Closing Ceremony<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As Native Heritage Month comes to a close, all are invited to give thanksgiving, join in a celebratory\u00a0 social dance and check out a showcase of Indigenous students&#8217; artwork during the <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.syracuse.edu\/events\/2022-nov-30\/native-heritage-month-closing-ceremony\/\">Closing Ceremony<\/a> on Nov. 30 at the Skybarn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Native Heritage Month is a great opportunity to get involved and learn something new. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you attend any of the month&#8217;s events, be sure to post your pictures on social media using the hashtag #CuseNHM.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For more information regarding Native Heritage Month or to request accommodations, please <a href=\"mailto:batlacha@syr.edu\">email Bailey Tlachac<\/a> or call <a href=\"tel:3154430258\">315.443.0258<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Written By Tessa Hodinger G&#8217;23, S.I.
