Family Weekend is quickly approaching! This is a time for you to reconnect with your family after spending time <\/span>apart<\/span>, introduce family to your college <\/span>friends and share a glimpse into your life here at Syracuse University. It can be overwhelming to know what to share first with your family and <\/span>loved ones, and you<\/span>r family will probably ask a TON of questions<\/span>. To get the conversations started,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>New Student and Family Programs (NSFP)<\/span><\/span><\/a> <\/span>have compiled a list of five things you should definitely share with your family when they visit during Family <\/span>Weekend<\/span><\/span>!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

1. Share the Important People in Your Life<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

Whether it’s your mom and dad, grandma and grandpa, or a cousin, there’s a <\/span>pretty high<\/span> chance your loved ones want to hear about the important people in your life. This can be a roommate, <\/span>a <\/span>friend, <\/span>a <\/span>professor<\/span> <\/span>or the person in your biology class that sits next to you. Tell a funny story <\/span>about<\/span> a moment you and your roommate shared. Talk about <\/span>a great classroom experience or discussion you had<\/span>.<\/span> Your family would love to hear about all the moments you’ve shared with <\/span>new <\/span>people that<\/span> they do not get to experience firsthand. Bonus points if your family gets to meet some of your friends<\/span> or important people<\/span>!<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking of roommates<\/span> and friends<\/span>, you can check out the <\/span><\/span>Living on South Campus and in the Off-Campus Neighborhoods<\/span><\/span><\/a> information session <\/span>Student Living is holding<\/span>. <\/span>Attend this session with your family and future (or current) roommates<\/span>!<\/span> <\/span>As a first-year or second-year student, y<\/span>ou should plan to live on South Campus or off-campus in the next year or two,<\/span>\u00a0and this session will help you to prepare.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Share Your Favorite Spots On Campus<\/h2>\n

What’s your favorite spot to grab coffee or tea before class? Where do you study for exams? <\/span>Where does your <\/span>student <\/span>organization meet <\/span>every week<\/span>? <\/span>While strolling around campus with your loved ones in between <\/span><\/span>Family Weekend events<\/span><\/span><\/a>, take a moment to point out spots that you visit frequently. Your family will think you are the BEST tour guide around.\u00a0<\/span>However, if you would like <\/span>to let someone else do the work of showing off the University\u2019s incredible campus, attend one of our <\/span><\/span>campus tours<\/span><\/span><\/a> happening throughout Family Weekend!<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Share What You’ve Learned and How You Get Involved on Campus<\/h2>\n

You’<\/span>ve <\/span>probably learned a thing or two while attending Syracuse University. <\/span>Maybe it’s something you learned in class, or maybe it’s when your favorite dessert is served at the dining hall. Either way, <\/span>you<\/span>r<\/span> family wants to hear about what you have learned <\/span>throughout your time here!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Your family would also love to hear about what you’ve been involved in on campus or about fun events you have attended as a student here.<\/span> <\/span>Share about the student <\/span>organization you’re a part of, or <\/span>i<\/span>ntroduce your family to Orange After Dark<\/a> by taking them <\/span>to the <\/span><\/span>Family Weekend movie showing<\/span><\/span><\/a> <\/span><\/span>of<\/span><\/span> “Minions: Rise of Gru<\/span><\/span>“ or to the <\/span><\/span>Glow Skate and Learn to Curl<\/span><\/span><\/a> event at the Tennity Ice Pavilion!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

4. Share How You’re Taking Care of Yourself<\/h2>\n

We hope that you have been taking care of yourself, both physically and mentally. <\/span>Your family probably does, too! Share with them all the ways you have been keeping yourself healthy and happy. <\/span>The good news <\/span>is,<\/span> you don\u2019t just have to tell them this; Family Weekend gives you a great opportunity to show them! <\/span>Take them on a tour of the Barnes Center at The Arch<\/a><\/span> or show them your favorite hiking spot!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

5. Share Your School Spirit<\/h2>\n

A huge part of Family Weekend is attending the Family Weekend football game<\/span> <\/span>and other sporting events. This year, in addition to having a Family Weekend football game versus North Carolina State University on Saturday, Oct. 15, we will also have the <\/span><\/span>2022 Orange Tip-Off<\/span><\/span><\/a> with our Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s basketball teams on Friday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. (Orange Tip-Off tickets are free!)\u00a0<\/span>Both the football game and Orange Tip-Off will give you the opportunity to <\/span>share what it means to Be Orange with your family and loved ones!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Sharing these important parts of your University life <\/span>with your family and loved ones is a great way for them to get<\/span> a glimpse into your time here<\/span>.
