Join the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Resource Center and the campus community to acknowledge trans visibility and fight for trans liberation, this time through the lens of prison reform. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Here is how you can get involved this Trans Week of Liberation!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Opening Ceremony for Trans Week of Liberation<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Monday, March 28 | 11 a.m. &#8211; Noon | Hendricks Chapel\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Join the LGBTQ Resource Center in observing the loss of trans lives to hate and acknowledging the injustices queer people face everyday. We will begin by raising the trans flag outside of Hendricks Chapel followed by a talk by Rabbi Noyovitz (she\/they) from Syracuse Hillel. This will be an open space for people to speak about their experiences.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.syracuse.edu\/events\/2022-mar-30\/trans-affinity-group-twol-trans-social\/\"><b>Trans Affinity Group\/TWOL Trans Social<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wednesday, March 30 | 7-8 p.m. | Schine 132<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Join in a closed safe space for transgender, nonbinary, genderqueer and\/or gender questioning individuals. Students who attend will read and discuss an excerpt from Eric A. Stanley\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Captive Genders: Trans Embodiment and the Prison Industrial Complex. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In honor of the week\u2019s theme, the conversation will be focused on prison reform.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.syracuse.edu\/events\/2022-mar-31\/trans-week-of-liberation-keynote-film-and-discussion\/\"><b>&#8220;Where Justice Ends<\/b><b> &#8221; Movie Screening<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Thursday, March 31 | 6:30-7:30 p.m. | Falk 200<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The LGBTQ Resource Center will be hosting a showing of<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> &#8220;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Where Justice Ends,&#8221; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a movie that delves into why so many trans people encounter the police, how these encounters often lead to discriminatory treatment and the poor conditions that trans people are often subjected to within U.S. prisons. The film considers the conditions in the U.S. prison system and the injustices within it as it pertains to trans people. The film contains real accounts from trans inmates and experts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.syracuse.edu\/events\/2022-mar-31\/trans-week-of-liberation-keynote-film-and-discussion\/\"><b>Jennifer Love Williams Speaks on Trans Liberation\u00a0<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Thursday, March 31 | 7:30- 8:30 p.m. | Falk 200<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Attend a discussion with Jennifer Love Williams (she\/her) from Black and Pink, a national prison abolitionist organization that is focused on liberating queer and trans folk. This event will draw attention to how the prison system uniquely impacts trans people through an intersectional lens. Those who attend are encouraged to bring questions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.syracuse.edu\/events\/2022-apr-01\/trans-week-of-liberation-knit-three-spill-the-tea\/\"><b>Knit Three, Spill the Tea<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Friday, April 1 | 1-3 p.m. | Schine 132<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Join the LGBTQ Resource Center to knit or crochet while venting about your week.
