{"id":1033,"date":"2023-08-17T02:57:53","date_gmt":"2023-08-17T02:57:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/experience-tst.syr.edu\/student-engagement\/?page_id=1033"},"modified":"2025-10-15T11:12:45","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T15:12:45","slug":"create-a-new-rso","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/experience.syracuse.edu\/student-engagement\/student-organizations\/create-a-new-rso\/","title":{"rendered":"Create a New RSO"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Does the Process Work?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students interested in starting a New Student Organization (NSO), recognized by Student Engagement, must complete and submit the official application through \u2019Cuse Activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Join us this fall for an NSO Information Session!<\/strong><br>Connect with the NSO team, get an inside look at the application process, and receive early feedback on your organization proposal before submissions open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NSO Process Information Session Dates:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tuesday, November 4 | 5:00 &#8211; 6:00 p.m. | Schine Student Center, Rm. 229<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Friday, November 7 | 2:00 &#8211; 3:00 p.m. | Schine Student Center, Rm. 229<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thursday, November 13 | 5:00 &#8211; 6:00 p.m. | Schine Student Center, Rm. 229<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Monday, November 17 | 6:00 &#8211; 7:00 p.m. | Huntington Hall, Rm. 100<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Spring 2026 application process opens on January 12, 2026. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p>\n  \n<a href=\"https:\/\/syracuse.campuslabs.com\/engage\/submitter\/form\/start\/683527\" class='button margin-bottom button-primary' style=\"display: inline-block\"  >\n  \n  Submit an NSO Application HERE!\n      <span class=\"icon-right\">\n      <i class=\"icon-chevron-right\"><\/i>\n    <\/span>\n  <\/a>\n\n\n  <\/p>\n\n\n<p>For an in-depth overview of the NSO process and timeline, please refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/experience.syracuse.edu\/student-engagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2024\/07\/NSO-Information-Packet-24-25.pdf\">NSO Information Packet [PDF]<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The deadline to submit complete applications is February 6, 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div role=\"region\" class=\"accordion\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-item border border-gray-light\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-header-text\">\n        <h3 class=\"margin-bottom-0\">\n          <button class=\"accordion-header full-width background-gray-light-30 border-0 margin-0 padding-top-2 padding-bottom-2 padding-left-3 padding-right-3\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            What Needs to be included in the Application?            <div class='accordion-toggle icon-right' class=''>\n              <i class='icon-chevron-right'><\/i>\n            <\/div>\n          <\/button>\n        <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class='accordion-content'>\n        <ul>\n<li>Applications must have a minimum of eight (8) members, including four (4) filled executive board positions.\n<ul>\n<li>51% of your members must be undergraduate students, and your executive board should consist of on-campus, undergraduate students.\u00a0 Students studying abroad cannot hold executive board positions, in accordance with the <a href=\"https:\/\/experience.syracuse.edu\/student-engagement\/student-organizations\/rso-handbook\/\">RSO Handbook<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Applications must include an Advisor Contract, signed by the Advisor and available via &#8216;Cuse Activities.<\/li>\n<li>Applications must have all questions answered and completed.<\/li>\n<li>All proposed organizations are expected to attend a required pitch meeting upon approval of their initial application.\u00a0 During the pitch meeting, members of the proposed NSO will engage with the NSO Review Team, providing comprehensive responses to any relevant inquiries. Further details regarding pitch meetings can be found on the final pages of the<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/experience.syracuse.edu\/student-engagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2024\/07\/NSO-Information-Packet-24-25.pdf\">NSO Information Packet<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n      <div class=\"accordion-item border border-gray-light\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-header-text\">\n        <h3 class=\"margin-bottom-0\">\n          <button class=\"accordion-header full-width background-gray-light-30 border-0 margin-0 padding-top-2 padding-bottom-2 padding-left-3 padding-right-3\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            What happens if I\u2019m approved?            <div class='accordion-toggle icon-right' class=''>\n              <i class='icon-chevron-right'><\/i>\n            <\/div>\n          <\/button>\n        <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class='accordion-content'>\n        <p data-start=\"66\" data-end=\"313\"><strong data-start=\"66\" data-end=\"175\">Approved NSOs will complete a formal registration process during the Spring semester.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"66\" data-end=\"313\">This step is required for all NSOs to transition into fully active Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) in the following semester.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"66\" data-end=\"313\">Details about this process will be covered during the <strong data-start=\"369\" data-end=\"406\">required NSO Orientation workshop<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"66\" data-end=\"313\">Please note: Only NSOs that successfully complete registration will gain full RSO status beginning the semester after approval.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n      <div class=\"accordion-item border border-gray-light\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-header-text\">\n        <h3 class=\"margin-bottom-0\">\n          <button class=\"accordion-header full-width background-gray-light-30 border-0 margin-0 padding-top-2 padding-bottom-2 padding-left-3 padding-right-3\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            What happens if I\u2019m denied?            <div class='accordion-toggle icon-right' class=''>\n              <i class='icon-chevron-right'><\/i>\n            <\/div>\n          <\/button>\n        <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class='accordion-content'>\n        <p><span>Any organization denied NSO status must wait an entire academic year before they can submit an application again.\u00a0 For example, if an organization applies in Spring 2026 and is denied, or fails to complete the NSO registration process, they must wait until Spring 2027 to reapply for recognition<\/span><\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<p>If you have questions, please email <a href=\"mailto:stactivities@syr.edu\">Student Engagement<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n<hr>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New Student Organization (NSO) Resources<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/syracuse.campuslabs.com\/engage\/submitter\/form\/start\/683527\">NSO Application<\/a>:<\/strong>&nbsp; Application form that needs to be completed to apply to be a new student organization.
