Michael joined the division in November 2021 as the new senior director of student engagement, overseeing the areas of Student Activities and Student Centers and Programming Services. Michael has worked in higher education for nearly two decades in roles spanning campus activities, student unions and student development, providing the unique combination of experience to lead, facilitate and enhance student programming efforts. Michael joins us from Shippensburg University where he held the role of executive director of campus life and university union. Prior to that, he spent more than five years at Bucknell University as the director of campus activities. Originally from Utica, NY, Michael earned a bachelor's degree from Utica College and a master's degree from Sage College of Albany, where he also served as coordinator of student development and campus programming and then director of student activities.
Courtney grew up in Liverpool, NY, a suburb just north of Syracuse. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Public Relations from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in 2007. She completed her Master's degree in Higher Education Administration at Syracuse University in 2011. Before working in the Office of Student Activities, Courtney served as the receptionist in the Center for Career Services at SU, and as a student employee in the Office of Human Resources. In her spare time, Courtney is an avid sports fan (Go Orange! Go Dodgers!) and also enjoys exploring the world with her family.
Native of Baltimore, MD by way of Charlotte, NC, Tim Johnson is a graduated of North Carolina Central University where he obtained his BA in Psychology. From there he received his master’s degree from UNC Wilmington in Higher Education Administration. Tim is coming from Guilford College, where he was the Director of Student Leadership and Engagement for the last two years. Student Engagement is his life passion and he knows that this field is his live purpose and working with young people fuel him to be better each and every day. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated, has a deep appreciate for GOOD music and is an avid shoe shopper. As a lasting quote Tim lives by this mantra of “Faith is where the impossible lies, and when we begin to tap into that, we can achieve anything”
Cateatra Mallard is a native, born and raised from the Washington D.C./ Metropolitan area. Cateatra received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from her “Home by the Sea,” Hampton University. Shortly after, she returned to her alma mater to obtain a Master of Arts in Counseling with a concentration in College Student Development. Before arriving at Syracuse University, Cateatra began her journey in Student Activities in 2011 at Hampton University. Since then, she has served as the Co-Curricular Program Coordinator at Virginia State University (VSU), and Coordinator of Student Involvement at Radford University. Cateatra absolutely loves her line of work and is involved with several professional associations. She is a trained dancer, lover of music, and member of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity. She absolutely loves traveling, laughter, shoes, spending time with her family, and binge watching a good series. Cateatra looks forward to serving the student of SU, having a positive impact, and enhancing the student experience!
Greg is originally from Marcy, NY, a suburb just north of Utica. He received his Bachelor of Science in both Accounting and Real Estate from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management in 2012. While at SU, Greg had the opportunity to be a member of Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity, as well as study abroad in London, UK. He looks forward to bringing his passion for the University into his work and help foster the positive environment that he experienced.
Jeffry is a native of Syracuse and received his bachelor’s degree in Communications and Political Science from Le Moyne College. While at Le Moyne, Jeffry was involved with Student Government, Resident Housing Association and was a Resident Advisor. Jeffry spends his time playing basketball, listening to music, and playing the guitar. He is excited to be a member of the Office of Student Activities staff working with Orange After Dark to improve the unsurpassed student experience.
Sam was raised in Upstate New York so she is no stranger to the cold and snowy winters. She received her bachelor’s in Human Services Management from Alfred State College where she started her career in student activities working in both the Student Engagement office and in Residential Life. Sam is passionate about the impact that student activities has on the college experience and will continue to pursue her passion. In her spare time, Sam loves to spend time playing her cats and hanging out with her family. She also loves a good book and has been known to be pretty crafty sometimes.
Kayla Cabrera is a native of sunny south Florida, where she received her undergraduate degree from The Florida State University. Kayla then pursued her masters degree at Florida International University, there she worked in the Campus Life office with the Student Programming Council and the Homecoming Council planning all types of events for the campus. Kayla is passionate about working with students and helping them create the best campus experience for the University. In her spare time, Kayla enjoys cooking, dancing, reading her horoscope and making TikToks!
Merci is from Bloomington, Illinois and received her Bachelor’s in Human Development and Family Studies from Colorado State University. While studying at CSU, Merci was involved as a student tour guide, a member of Pi Beta Phi, an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant, and dedicated her honors thesis to increase student engagement on campus tours. She is now pursuing a Masters in Higher Education at Syracuse. You can usually find Merci cooking for her friends or trying a new coffee shop. She is excited to work with students and be a part of the office!
Shyanne is originally from Randolph, Vermont and received their Bachelor’s in Statistics from St. Lawrence University. While studying at SLU, Shyanne was involved as a student tutor, McNair Scholar, and dedicated her Senior Year Project to evaluating retention strategies for low-income students. Shyanne is now pursuing a Masters in Higher Education at Syracuse. In their free time, Shyanne likes to play any Zelda game and make perler bead art. She is most excited to work with students and learn more about student activities!
