The minor is open and welcoming to all students and offers a sustained opportunity to learn about LGBTQ experience, history and scholarship, as well as explore fundamental questions about sexualities, bodies, identities, communities, social movements and liberation politics. As an interdisciplinary field, LGBTQ Studies critically examines the significance of sexuality and gender identity to social organization, cultural production and historical change from a wide range of academic disciplines.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/syracuse.campuslabs.com\/engage\/organization\/pride-union\"><strong>Pride Union<\/strong><\/a> is a Recognized Student Organization (RSO) devoted to enriching the lives of LGBTQ+ students at Syracuse University. Since 1993, they have been providing HIV awareness and prevention services for communities of color in the Syracuse area.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Friends-Of-Dorothy-House-103497893059761\/timeline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Friends of Dorothy<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is an initiative to be supportive of people with AIDS. Since October of 1992, Friends of Dorothy House has offered home-based care to people with AIDS.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/gay.syracuse\/timeline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LGBTQ Syracuse<\/a><\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>strives to be a voice for the LGBTQ+ community and supportive allies, provide a networking platform and share local events and news from around the world.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dhr.ny.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>The New York State Division of Human Rights<\/strong><\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>works to ensure that every citizen has an equal opportunity to enjoy a full and productive life. They are active against discrimination in employment, housing, credit, places of public accommodations and non-sectarian educational institutions based on age, race, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, mental status, disability, military status and other specified classes.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.peace-caa.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PEACE Inc.<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>helps\u00a0people in the community realize their potential for becoming self-sufficient.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/health-center\/new-york\/syracuse\/13210\/syracuse-center-2471-91040\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Planned Parenthood<\/strong><\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>is a trusted health care provider, an informed educator, a passionate advocate and a global partner helping similar organizations around the world. Planned Parenthood delivers vital reproductive health care, sex education and information to millions of women, men and young people worldwide.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.binghamton.edu\/prideandjoyfamilies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pride and Joy Families<\/a><\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>is dedicated to helping lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) people in upstate New York achieve their goals of building and sustaining healthy families. We do this by providing support, advocacy, information and access to community as well as sensitive health care and services.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acrhealth.org\/youth-programs\/q-centers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Q Center<\/a><\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>provides a safe and supportive space for LGBTQ+ youth, provides resources that cultivate pride and leadership skills, and works to create a safer community for LGBTQ+ youth.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sageupstate.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SAGE Upstate<\/a><\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the health and well being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning people in Central New York as they age.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.syrglc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>The Syracuse Gay and Lesbian Chorus<\/strong><\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>is a community choral ensemble of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people and their allies, dedicated to providing and performing an eclectic and entertaining offering of quality choral music which reflects the diverse nature of our community and serves to unite us with the wider community around us.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/tgacny\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Transgender Alliance of CNY<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>is a social and support group for trans identified persons in the Central New York area.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/transgendercny.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Transgender Health Services Network of CNY<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0strives to provide care for the transgender population of Central New York.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.verahouse.org\/about-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vera House<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>is a comprehensive domestic and sexual violence service agency providing shelter, advocacy and counseling services for women, children and men; education and prevention programs; and community coordination.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vlpcny.org\/\"><strong>Volunteer Lawyers Project of CNY<\/strong><\/a> is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit legal aid organization that provides free legal information, assistance and representation in civil legal matters to low-income people in Central New York. Services are provided by staff and volunteer attorneys with the help of paralegals and law students. It exists to develop, support and give \u201cvoice and action\u201d in building future LGBTQ+ and ally student leaders.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.colage.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">COLAGE<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>unites people with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and\/or queer parents into a network of peers and supports them as they nurture and empower each other to be skilled, self-confident and just leaders in our collective communities.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.glaad.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GLAAD<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>rewrites the script for LGBTQ+ acceptance. As a dynamic media force, GLAAD tackles tough issues to shape the narrative and provoke dialogue that leads to cultural change. GLAAD protects all that has been accomplished and creates a world where everyone can live the life they love.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/transactivists.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Global Action for Trans* Equality<\/a><\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>is a trans* network coordinator, facilitator and advocate to the &#8220;outside&#8221; world. GATE works to unite trans* movements for common goals while developing trans* agendas on a conceptual policy level.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hrc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>The Human Rights Campaign<\/strong><\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>represents a force of more than 1.5 million members and supporters nationwide. As the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ+ people are ensured of their basic equal rights, and can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lambdalegal.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Lambda Legal<\/strong><\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>is a national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and those with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lgbtmap.org\/\"><strong>The Movement Advancement Project (MAP)<\/strong><\/a> is a resource that assesses and outlines various policies and laws that protect members of the LGBTQIA+ population in areas including employment, housing, public accommodations, health care and more. The site includes maps of the states and reports on these various topics.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.transequality.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>The National Center for Transgender Equality<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is the nation\u2019s leading social justice advocacy organization winning life-saving change for transgender people.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nclrights.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR)<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>has been advancing the civil and human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their families through litigation, legislation, policy and public education since it was founded in 1977.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetaskforce.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>The National LGBTQ Task Force<\/strong><\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>advances full freedom, justice and equality for LGBTQ+ people.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.outandequal.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Out and Equal Workplace Advocates<\/strong><\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>educates and empowers organizations, HR professionals, ERGs and individual employees through programs and services that result in equal policies, opportunities, practices and benefits in the workplace regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.outforwork.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Our For Work<\/a><\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>functions as a complimentary component in the total educational experience of LGBTQ+ students, primarily in the development, evaluation, initiation and implementation of career plans and opportunities. OFW\u2019s programs, resources and services provide assistance to students in the cultivation and enhancement of skills to explore career options, master job search techniques and strategies, and research employment opportunities.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.outserve-sldn.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>OutServe-SLDN<\/strong><\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>represents the U.S. LGBTQ+ military community worldwide. Their mission is to educate the community, provide legal services, advocate for authentic transgender service, provide developmental opportunities, support members and local chapters, communicate effectively and work towards equality for all.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/community.pflag.org\/Page.aspx?pid=194&amp;srcid=-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PFLAG<\/a><\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>is the nation\u2019s largest family and ally organization. Uniting people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) with families, friends and allies, PFLAG is committed to advancing equality and full societal affirmation of LGBTQ+ people through its threefold mission of support, education and advocacy.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/pronouns.org\/\"><strong>Pronouns.org<\/strong><\/a> is a resource site that provides education and guidance around different personal pronouns and how to use them properly. This includes common pronouns used, how to ask someone their personal pronouns, navigating mistakes and more.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sageusa.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"blue caps\"><strong>SAGE<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>is the country\u2019s largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) older adults. Their mission is to lead in addressing issues related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ+) aging.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.splcenter.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Southern Poverty Law Center<\/a><\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>is dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of our society. Using litigation, education and other forms of advocacy, the Center works toward the day when the ideals of equal justice and equal opportunity will be a reality.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/srlp.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>The Sylvia Rivera Law Project<\/strong><\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>works to guarantee that all people are free to self-determine gender identity and expression, regardless of income or race, and without facing harassment, discrimination or violence.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/translifeline.org\/\"><strong>Trans Lifeline<\/strong><\/a> is a grassroots hotline and microgrants 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization offering direct emotional and financial support to trans people in crisis\u2014for the trans community, by the trans community.
