Sanctions are designed to hold students accountable while giving them the opportunity to learn from their mistakes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Expungement recognizes that students who complete their sanctions, remain in good standing, and demonstrate sustained responsible behavior over time should not be permanently defined by a single violation. It offers a path for students to move forward without a conduct record following them beyond their time at the University, while preserving accountability for patterns of behavior or serious violations that fall outside the intent of this process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The full expungement policy is outlined in Part 13.5 of the <a href=\"https:\/\/experience.syracuse.edu\/community-standards\/conduct-process\/conduct-handbook\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/experience.syracuse.edu\/community-standards\/conduct-process\/conduct-handbook\/\">Student Conduct System Handbook<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students may request expungement if they have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Completed all assigned sanctions by the assigned deadlines;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remained in good standing with the University; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remained free of any Conduct Code violations for two (2) full consecutive academic semesters since the violation in question ( i.e., a full fall and spring)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students whose violation occurred in their graduating semester may still apply if they meet all other requirements and can demonstrate they are applying to graduate or professional school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What is<\/strong> <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Not<\/span> Eligible for Expungement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Expungement will <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">not<\/span><\/strong> be granted for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Records of expulsion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Incidents involving violations determined to be motivated by bias<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Academic Integrity violations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Incidents involving participation in acts of hazing as defined in University policy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Incidents involving sale or distribution of drugs\/controlled substances<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Incidents causing significant damage to property<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Incidents causing significant injury<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Incidents involving violations of the University\u2019s Sexual Assault, Stalking, Gender-Related Harassment, Dating or Domestic Violence, and\/or Sexual Harassment, Abuse, and Assault Prevention policies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How to Apply<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students may request expungement by completing the <a href=\"https:\/\/cm.maxient.com\/reportingform.php?SyracuseUniv&amp;layout_id=67\">Request for Expungement Form<\/a>. A separate request is required for each incident; blanket requests will not be accepted. Students with multiple incidents may not be eligible if their history reflects a pattern of poor decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a student is found responsible for a new violation after expungement has been granted, the original record may be restored and considered in determining sanctions for the new case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Processing Time<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Requests are reviewed in the order received and may take up to 30 business days to process. Students will receive an update via email once their request has been reviewed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If Your Record Has Been Expunged<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students are not required to report expunged incidents on disciplinary history questions for graduate school applications, job applications, or other background checks, and Community Standards will not report out expunged records. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Expungement reflects the University&#8217;s belief that student growth is a core part of the conduct process.
