Below are the various types of University Statuses that a student may be assigned as a result of a conduct process.<\/p>\n\n\n<div role=\"region\" class=\"accordion\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-item border border-gray-light\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-header-text\">\n        <h3 class=\"margin-bottom-0\">\n          <button class=\"accordion-header full-width background-gray-light-30 border-0 margin-0 padding-top-2 padding-bottom-2 padding-left-3 padding-right-3\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            Conduct Warning            <div class='accordion-toggle icon-right' class=''>\n              <i class='icon-chevron-right'><\/i>\n            <\/div>\n          <\/button>\n        <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class='accordion-content'>\n        <p>A formal warning on behalf of the University intended to clearly document in a student\u2019s or student organization\u2019s disciplinary file that their behavior is unacceptable. The length of this status will be determined by the Conduct Officer or University Conduct Board\/Administrative Hearing Officer.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>What this means:<\/strong><\/span> A Conduct Warning does <strong>not<\/strong> prevent you from joining clubs or organizations, participating in University events, or pursuing other opportunities at Syracuse University. It is not a barrier to your involvement in campus life. Instead, it serves as a reminder that the University expects all students to act responsibly, and that future misconduct may lead to more serious disciplinary action.<\/p>\n<p>This status is noted on your conduct record with Community Standards, but it is not listed on your academic transcript.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n      <div class=\"accordion-item border border-gray-light\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-header-text\">\n        <h3 class=\"margin-bottom-0\">\n          <button class=\"accordion-header full-width background-gray-light-30 border-0 margin-0 padding-top-2 padding-bottom-2 padding-left-3 padding-right-3\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            Conduct Probation            <div class='accordion-toggle icon-right' class=''>\n              <i class='icon-chevron-right'><\/i>\n            <\/div>\n          <\/button>\n        <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class='accordion-content'>\n        <p>An escalated warning that allows a student or student organization to remain enrolled or recognized by the University, respectively, but under specific conditions. It is a signal that future violations could result in suspension or expulsion. While on conduct probation, students are not considered in good standing and are not permitted to hold or run for leadership positions including, but not limited to, resident assistants (RAs), peer leaders or mentors, orientation leaders, Student Government Association leaders, or hold leadership positions in recognized clubs and organizations, including professional and social fraternities and sororities.<\/p>\n<p>For <a href=\"https:\/\/experience.syracuse.edu\/student-engagement\/student-organizations\/\">student organizations <\/a>on conduct probation, any additional violations of the Code could result in suspension or loss of University recognition. For all students, any further violations while on conduct probation may lead to immediate suspension or expulsion from the University.<\/p>\n<p>The length of this status will be determined by the Conduct Officer or University Conduct Board\/Administrative Hearing Officer.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>What this means:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>You can still live on campus and go to classes, but you are not considered in good standing. If you have another violation while in probation, you may be suspended or expelled from the University. Student groups who violate probation may lose their recognition.<\/p>\n<p>Unless otherwise stated, while on probation you are still allowed to go to campus events and be involved in clubs\/teams\/organizations, however, you are not allowed to hold a leadership role on campus during your probationary period.<\/p>\n<p>This status is noted on your conduct record with Community Standards, but it is not listed on your academic transcript.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n      <div class=\"accordion-item border border-gray-light\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-header-text\">\n        <h3 class=\"margin-bottom-0\">\n          <button class=\"accordion-header full-width background-gray-light-30 border-0 margin-0 padding-top-2 padding-bottom-2 padding-left-3 padding-right-3\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            Social Probation            <div class='accordion-toggle icon-right' class=''>\n              <i class='icon-chevron-right'><\/i>\n            <\/div>\n          <\/button>\n        <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class='accordion-content'>\n        <p>In response to a breach of specific expectations by a student organization, its primary effect is to suspend a privilege related to the nature of the offense and\/or restrict access to specific campus facilities or programs.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What this means<\/span>: <\/strong>Social probation can take many forms, ranging from partial restrictions, such as limits on the type or size of social events the organization can host, to a complete restriction on registering or hosting any social events. The specific conditions depend on the nature of the violation and are set by the Conduct Officer or University Conduct Board.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n      <div class=\"accordion-item border border-gray-light\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-header-text\">\n        <h3 class=\"margin-bottom-0\">\n          <button class=\"accordion-header full-width background-gray-light-30 border-0 margin-0 padding-top-2 padding-bottom-2 padding-left-3 padding-right-3\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            Interim Suspension            <div class='accordion-toggle icon-right' class=''>\n              <i class='icon-chevron-right'><\/i>\n            <\/div>\n          <\/button>\n        <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class='accordion-content'>\n        <p><span>This action by the Dean of Students, or a designee, is a temporary suspension of certain rights or privileges while a conduct case is pending. An interim suspension may be broad and inclusive or may be restricted to a specific location and\/or function and is based on the determination that the safety and well-being of the University community or specific persons are at risk.<\/span><\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n      <div class=\"accordion-item border border-gray-light\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-header-text\">\n        <h3 class=\"margin-bottom-0\">\n          <button class=\"accordion-header full-width background-gray-light-30 border-0 margin-0 padding-top-2 padding-bottom-2 padding-left-3 padding-right-3\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            Suspension in Abeyance             <div class='accordion-toggle icon-right' class=''>\n              <i class='icon-chevron-right'><\/i>\n            <\/div>\n          <\/button>\n        <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class='accordion-content'>\n        <p>A sanction in which suspension from the University has been formally imposed but is not immediately enforced. The student is permitted to remain enrolled; however, the suspension will be activated if the student\/student organization is found responsible for any additional violation of the Conduct Code of similar or greater severity, fails to complete any assigned conditions by the stated deadlines, or otherwise violates any of the terms of the original sanction.<\/p>\n<p>Students on this status are not considered in good standing and are not permitted to hold or run for leadership positions including, but not limited to, resident assistants (RAs), peer leaders or mentors, orientation leaders, Student Government Association leaders, or hold leadership positions in recognized clubs and organizations, including professional and social fraternities and sororities.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>What this means<\/strong><\/span>: You&#8217;re allowed to remain enrolled, but a suspension has already been decided, but will only go into effect if you commit another similar or serious violation, miss a deadline for something you were required to do, or break any other condition of this sanction. Because you&#8217;re not in good standing during this time, you can&#8217;t run for or hold leadership roles.<\/p>\n<p>This status is noted on your conduct record with Community Standards, but only goes on your academic transcript if the suspension goes into effect.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n      <div class=\"accordion-item border border-gray-light\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-header-text\">\n        <h3 class=\"margin-bottom-0\">\n          <button class=\"accordion-header full-width background-gray-light-30 border-0 margin-0 padding-top-2 padding-bottom-2 padding-left-3 padding-right-3\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            Suspension            <div class='accordion-toggle icon-right' class=''>\n              <i class='icon-chevron-right'><\/i>\n            <\/div>\n          <\/button>\n        <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class='accordion-content'>\n        <p>A student\u2019s immediate involuntary withdrawal from the University, or for a student organization, the loss of University recognition and related privileges, for a stated period of time as determined by the Conduct Officer or University Conduct Board\/Administrative Hearing Officer. A suspended student or student organization is prohibited from any presence or activity on University-owned, operated, or controlled property, including, but not limited to, University-owned property leased to a non-University affiliated party, and from participation in any class or program offered by Syracuse<\/p>\n<p>If a student is issued a sanction of suspension after completing all degree requirements, but prior to degree conferral, their degree will not be conferred until the period of suspension is completed.<\/p>\n<p>The University may require proof of completion or impose specific terms\/conditions before a student is eligible to return from a suspension status.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>What this means:<\/strong><\/span> Suspension means you&#8217;re immediately and involuntarily removed from the University for a set period of time, but after that time, you are able to return to Syracuse to complete your education.<\/p>\n<p>Suspensions are noted on an academic transcript.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n      <div class=\"accordion-item border border-gray-light\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-header-text\">\n        <h3 class=\"margin-bottom-0\">\n          <button class=\"accordion-header full-width background-gray-light-30 border-0 margin-0 padding-top-2 padding-bottom-2 padding-left-3 padding-right-3\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            Expulsion            <div class='accordion-toggle icon-right' class=''>\n              <i class='icon-chevron-right'><\/i>\n            <\/div>\n          <\/button>\n        <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class='accordion-content'>\n        <p>The permanent separation of the student or student organization from the University, its programs and facilities. It is the most severe disciplinary action the University Student Conduct System can impose. Students expelled prior to degree conferral will not have their degree conferred.<\/p>\n<p>An expelled student or student organization is prohibited from any presence or activity on University-owned, operated, or controlled property, including but not limited to, University-owned property leased to a non-University affiliated party, and from participation in any class, program, or event offered by Syracuse University.<\/p>\n<p>Expulsions are noted on an academic transcript.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Residential Statuses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Residential Policy sanctions are official sanctions issued through the conduct process by either Community Standards or Residential Living staff as a result of a violation of a Residential Living or University Housing policy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These statuses are separate from, and may be combined with, University Conduct Statuses outlined above for cases in which a student is found responsible for violating both Residential Policies and the Student Conduct Code.<\/p>\n\n\n<div role=\"region\" class=\"accordion\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-item border border-gray-light\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-header-text\">\n        <h3 class=\"margin-bottom-0\">\n          <button class=\"accordion-header full-width background-gray-light-30 border-0 margin-0 padding-top-2 padding-bottom-2 padding-left-3 padding-right-3\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            Residential Warning            <div class='accordion-toggle icon-right' class=''>\n              <i class='icon-chevron-right'><\/i>\n            <\/div>\n          <\/button>\n        <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class='accordion-content'>\n        <p>A formal warning on behalf of the residential living program intended to clearly document in a student\u2019s disciplinary file that the student\u2019s behavior is unacceptable. The length of this status will be determined by the Conduct Officer or hearing body\/official.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n      <div class=\"accordion-item border border-gray-light\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-header-text\">\n        <h3 class=\"margin-bottom-0\">\n          <button class=\"accordion-header full-width background-gray-light-30 border-0 margin-0 padding-top-2 padding-bottom-2 padding-left-3 padding-right-3\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            Residential Probation            <div class='accordion-toggle icon-right' class=''>\n              <i class='icon-chevron-right'><\/i>\n            <\/div>\n          <\/button>\n        <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class='accordion-content'>\n        <p>A student is no longer in good standing within the University\u2019s residential living Further violations may result in the loss of eligibility to live in or visit the University\u2019s residence and\/or residential dining facilities.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n      <div class=\"accordion-item border border-gray-light\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-header-text\">\n        <h3 class=\"margin-bottom-0\">\n          <button class=\"accordion-header full-width background-gray-light-30 border-0 margin-0 padding-top-2 padding-bottom-2 padding-left-3 padding-right-3\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            Residential Suspension            <div class='accordion-toggle icon-right' class=''>\n              <i class='icon-chevron-right'><\/i>\n            <\/div>\n          <\/button>\n        <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class='accordion-content'>\n        <p><span>This stipulation indicates that a student has been temporarily removed from University housing for a specified period of time or until a specified action occurs. A residential suspension involves the student&#8217;s removal from housing altogether. This status may be limited to a specific facility or applied to all facilities.<\/span><\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n      <div class=\"accordion-item border border-gray-light\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-header-text\">\n        <h3 class=\"margin-bottom-0\">\n          <button class=\"accordion-header full-width background-gray-light-30 border-0 margin-0 padding-top-2 padding-bottom-2 padding-left-3 padding-right-3\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            Residential Relocation \/ Suspension \/ Expulsion            <div class='accordion-toggle icon-right' class=''>\n              <i class='icon-chevron-right'><\/i>\n            <\/div>\n          <\/button>\n        <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class='accordion-content'>\n        <p>A student is no longer eligible to live in or visit some or all the University\u2019s residential and\/or dining facilities. A residential relocation involves the reassignment of a student\u2019s living unit within University housing and usually prohibits the student from returning to the residential area associated with the former living assignment. A residential suspension or expulsion involves the student\u2019s removal from University housing altogether. These restrictions may extend for a specific period, until the completion of specific conditions, or permanently. These restrictions may be limited to a specific residential facility or applied to all facilities.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n      <div class=\"accordion-item border border-gray-light\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-header-text\">\n        <h3 class=\"margin-bottom-0\">\n          <button class=\"accordion-header full-width background-gray-light-30 border-0 margin-0 padding-top-2 padding-bottom-2 padding-left-3 padding-right-3\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            Ban from Residential Location\/Campus            <div class='accordion-toggle icon-right' class=''>\n              <i class='icon-chevron-right'><\/i>\n            <\/div>\n          <\/button>\n        <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class='accordion-content'>\n        <p><span>This\u00a0stipulation indicates that a student is not permitted to enter into a specific residential building(s) and\/or residential area of campus for a specific period of time, up to and including permanent restrictions.<\/span><\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n      <div class=\"accordion-item border border-gray-light\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-header-text\">\n        <h3 class=\"margin-bottom-0\">\n          <button class=\"accordion-header full-width background-gray-light-30 border-0 margin-0 padding-top-2 padding-bottom-2 padding-left-3 padding-right-3\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            Guest\/Visitation Restrictions            <div class='accordion-toggle icon-right' class=''>\n              <i class='icon-chevron-right'><\/i>\n            <\/div>\n          <\/button>\n        <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class='accordion-content'>\n        <p><span>This stipulation indicates that a student has had their privilege of hosting guests and\/or visiting others in housing restricted for a specified period of time, up to and including permanent restriction.<\/span><\/p>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-x-large-font-size wp-elements-1\">Change In Status<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some University statutes result in changes in a student&#8217;s conduct standing, which can impact the experiences in which students can participate. Review the information below for behaviors that can result in conduct status changes and how it may impact you.<\/p>\n\n\n<div role=\"region\" class=\"accordion\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-item border border-gray-light\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-header-text\">\n        <h3 class=\"margin-bottom-0\">\n          <button class=\"accordion-header full-width background-gray-light-30 border-0 margin-0 padding-top-2 padding-bottom-2 padding-left-3 padding-right-3\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            Behaviors That May Result in Conduct Probation            <div class='accordion-toggle icon-right' class=''>\n              <i class='icon-chevron-right'><\/i>\n            <\/div>\n          <\/button>\n        <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class='accordion-content'>\n        <p><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lighting candles or incense in campus housing;<\/li>\n<li>Physical altercation;<\/li>\n<li>Possession of a weapon, hazardous material, or unlawful material;<\/li>\n<li>Possession or use of illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia;<\/li>\n<li>Bias-motivated acts;<\/li>\n<li>Violation of a No Contact Order;<\/li>\n<li>Retaliation;<\/li>\n<li>Sexual harassment;<\/li>\n<li>Stalking;<\/li>\n<li>Multiple violations of the Code of Student Conduct;<\/li>\n<li>Any violations of the Code of Student Conduct when currently on a status of Conduct Warning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Conduct Probation, students may not be able to participate in Syracuse University Abroad, be a resident advisor, or participate in any campus activity or experience that requires &#8220;good conduct standing.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For more information about restrictions while on Conduct Probation, contact the specific office or program in which you are interested in participating.
