The harm-reduction tips below were adapted and compiled from lists created by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CA1F6tKJk8W\/\">NAACP at UT Austin<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CA5b2Dkg9VI\/\">Frontline Medics<\/a> and Students for Sensible Drug Policy.<\/p>\n\n\n<div role=\"region\" class=\"accordion\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-item border border-gray-light\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-header-text\">\n        <h3 class=\"margin-bottom-0\">\n          <button class=\"accordion-header full-width background-gray-light-30 border-0 margin-0 padding-top-2 padding-bottom-2 padding-left-3 padding-right-3\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            Before Protesting            <div class='accordion-toggle icon-right' class=''>\n              <i class='icon-chevron-right'><\/i>\n            <\/div>\n          <\/button>\n        <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class='accordion-content'>\n        <ul>\n<li>Consider others is in your household and their health. Do not risk increasing their exposure, especially if they are at higher risk for COVID-19 complications.<\/li>\n<li>Know that there are other ways to practice anti-racist activism besides attending rallies and marches. This may include educating yourself and the people around you, donating to social justice organizations and\/or signing petitions.<\/li>\n<li>If you chose to attend in-person, ask a friend to join you, and use the buddy system.<\/li>\n<li>Let someone you trust know where you are going.<\/li>\n<li>Discuss and develop a safety plan with your buddy in case you are separated.<\/li>\n<li>Fully charge your phone, and consider bringing an extra battery pack and charger.<\/li>\n<li>Consider bringing the following items in a small bag or backpack:\n<ul>\n<li>First aid kit<\/li>\n<li>Hand sanitizer<\/li>\n<li>Hat to protect from the sun and help cover your face<\/li>\n<li>Mask or cloth covering that covers both your nose and mouth<\/li>\n<li>Snacks<\/li>\n<li>Sunglasses<\/li>\n<li>Tissues<\/li>\n<li>Water<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Do:\n<ul>\n<li>Dress in long sleeves and pants to protect your skin from sun damage and potential exposure to chemical agents.<\/li>\n<li>Understand your rights if you are<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/know-your-rights\/stopped-by-police\/\">stopped by the police<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes.<\/li>\n<li>Wear your hair up and out of your face.<\/li>\n<li>Write two emergency contacts with telephone numbers directly onto your hand or arm with permanent marker in case you are arrested.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Do Not:\n<ul>\n<li>Bring cannabis or cannabis products.<\/li>\n<li>Wear contact lenses or eye makeup.<\/li>\n<li>Wear jewelry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Take care of yourself physically and mentally.\n<ul>\n<li>Nourish your body with the food you have available to you, stay hydrated and get enough sleep.<\/li>\n<li>Reach out to your support system and practice self-care.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n      <div class=\"accordion-item border border-gray-light\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-header-text\">\n        <h3 class=\"margin-bottom-0\">\n          <button class=\"accordion-header full-width background-gray-light-30 border-0 margin-0 padding-top-2 padding-bottom-2 padding-left-3 padding-right-3\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            While Protesting            <div class='accordion-toggle icon-right' class=''>\n              <i class='icon-chevron-right'><\/i>\n            <\/div>\n          <\/button>\n        <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class='accordion-content'>\n        <ul>\n<li>Cover your cough and sneeze into your elbow.<\/li>\n<li>Do not share images of protesters on social media to protect their identities.<\/li>\n<li>Document injuries caused by police with photos and note the time and location.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t shake hands, hug, share drinks or engage in long face-to-face conversations.<\/li>\n<li>Enable a passcode on your phone.<\/li>\n<li>Identify safe ways to exit in case of escalated violence.<\/li>\n<li>If your eyes exposed to pepper spray or tear gas:\n<ul>\n<li>Do not rub them; blinking and rinsing are the most effective.<\/li>\n<li>Tilt head sideways and rinse each eye with water.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Stay at least 6 feet apart from others to maintain physical distancing.<\/li>\n<li>Stay focused and aware of your surroundings at all times.<\/li>\n<li>Stay hydrated by frequently drinking water.<\/li>\n<li>Turn off Face ID and Touch ID.<\/li>\n<li>Wear a mask or face covering and avoid touching your face.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n      <div class=\"accordion-item border border-gray-light\">\n      <div class=\"accordion-header-text\">\n        <h3 class=\"margin-bottom-0\">\n          <button class=\"accordion-header full-width background-gray-light-30 border-0 margin-0 padding-top-2 padding-bottom-2 padding-left-3 padding-right-3\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            After Protesting            <div class='accordion-toggle icon-right' class=''>\n              <i class='icon-chevron-right'><\/i>\n            <\/div>\n          <\/button>\n        <\/h3>\n      <\/div>\n      <div class='accordion-content'>\n        <ul>\n<li>Change your clothes as soon as possible, shower and disinfect your belongings.<\/li>\n<li>Consider a two week self-isolation. It is possible to transmit COVID-19 without showing any symptoms.<\/li>\n<li>Consider getting tested for COVID-19.
