Stanley FornalTherapeutic Style: I employ a therapeutic orientation that emphasizes an integrative approach informed by the theoretical perspectives of Psychodynamic Theory and Behavioral, Interpersonal and Crisis Intervention Models of counseling and psychotherapy in a multicultural-informed framework. My clinical approach fosters a strength-based collaborative partnership toward enhancing personal growth, interpersonal goals, academic success, improved coping strategies and emotional health.

Professional Interests: My specific areas of clinical interest include developmental issues of young adults, crisis intervention as an opportunity for personal growth, adjustment to college life and academics, men’s issues, first-generation college students, emotional health and resilience, attention difficulties and clinical diagnostic assessment.

Group and Liaison Roles: I currently run a Men’s Process Group focusing on the unique aspects of identity and interpersonal issues facing young adult males in a changing society.  I also serve on the Barnes Center at The Arch’s Social Justice Committee.

Educational Background: I attended Fordham University as an undergraduate majoring in psychology and biology. Prior to coming to Syracuse, my training in mental health began at Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital in the areas of inpatient clinical assessment, diagnosis and milieu treatment before attaining a master’s degree in clinical social work at Syracuse University.
